Can someone help me with these nominations?

I have a couple of Wayspot nominations that have been rejected for weird/non-relevant criteria. I am not sure how to go about fixing the nominations so they are more succinct.

This one is a bench a neighbor on the back side of our block made, by hand, for the neighborhood to use, as our neighborhood gets a lot of foot traffic, since it’s got an even elevation and around the block is just the right distance for a walk or jog, or for taking your dog out for some exercise.

It is four sides of seating, around a tree for shade, and on the public side of the street.

On appeal, I got told it was “just a bench” but like, every wayspot is “just a (something)” If you wanna be really technical.

It’s safe, it’s on the public walkway, it seats about 8-12 people easily, it’s distinct since they only built the one, and it’s pretty significant spot for the neighborhood as it offers a good resting spot for people out exercising.

Can someone help me make this an acceptable submission or help me understand how “just a bench” is unacceptable when “just a shopping center sign” or “just an trail marker” is?

The other one that got rejected I can sort of see as one is a public art piece on the public part of the city owned sidewalk, but it’s mostly made of broken pottery and local plants and succulents, and it takes up an entire corner, so it’s not really one little thing in a spot, so I kind of get why it was rejected, BUT the reason the appeal came back with was that it was on private property, which it is not,

Do you think there is a better way to submit this one, or should I just let it go?

Hello and welcome,

Unfortunately, it does appear that most of these are on single family private property, and that makes them ineligible. Even if it’s on a part of the sidewalk and that sidewalk is in front of private property, it’s still ineligible. To me, the pottery looks like decor that the property owner placed, mainly to be a planter for plants to spruce up their yard.

Location is a private residential property (even if historical)

There is also criteria clarification in regards to benches, and most are ineligible. You can find that information here:

You may want to review the Wayspot Criteria to make sure you know what can and cannot be accepted.
