My Nomination was rejected and I don’t understand why. I live in a very rural area without any stops around me or anything “interesting” to nominate, so I nominated a bus stop but it got rejected by the Wayfarer team with no reason being provided.
My entry is in Portuguese and so I will be translating it throughout this text.
Title: Bus Stop (Unir) - Porta Guedes
Description
Bus stop located on Rua da Raposa, formerly owned by MGC and currently operated by UNIR.
Additional Information
This bus stop is located in an area with few PokéStops or Gyms. It’s easily accessible, located on a safe public road, and served by public transportation.
Bus stops do not meet criteria which is that your nomination must be a great place to…
Socialize.
Exercise.
Explore.
Major bus stations that have buses going to many different locations may be acceptable but Bus Stops are classed as infrastructure.

Unfortunately being rural doesn’t lower the threshold for getting things approved. Generic bus stops don’t fit into the criteria.
There’s a great post for rural Wayfinders here: Tips for Rural Nominators
You may find some inspiration in that, and hopefully, you can locate something in your area that is eligible.

Good evening,
I understand that standard bus stops may not meet criteria in most cases. However, I’d like to, with all due respect, explain why this nomination deserves an exception.
This Wayspot is located in a rural area with very limited public points of interest. There are no public parks, sculptures, murals, community centers, etc nearby. I’ve worked hard to reach level 35 specifically ro contribute to this area, which currently has no wayspots in walking distance.
While this is just a bus stop, it serves as a safe place where players can meet and get the bus to a better playable location, since, as it is for now, i need to drive or catch buses to be able to play the game. I believe that rural communities deserve the same chances to engage with the game as those in urban areas.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards.
As @Glawhantojar states above, your location does not change criteria.
Your nomination does not “deserve an exception” as all locations have the same rules.
If they made an exception for you then why shouldn’t they for everyone else.
ps. I am not the one making the rules, I am unlikely be one of the people reviewing in your area.
Now for the advice: Very few areas have nothing (occasionally yes, but very few) that can be acceptable. If you are willing to post your area (do not state your home address, just general location) there are people here that are willing to scour the maps and make suggestions.
Good luck.
Good evening, I appreciate your response, but I want to be clear.
I’ve already read the tips for rural nominators guide and, unfortunately none of the examples apply to where I live.
There are no churches, community centers, parks, mural, etc nearby. The closest stop is over 10 minutes away uphill and the second one is much farther away. I’m not trying to abuse the system, I’m trying to play a game I enjoy.
I grinded to level 35 so I could improve the experience for myself, my friends and other players who live nearby and yet I’m being told that because of where I live, there’s nothing I can do. That’s extremely demotivating.
I understand that the goal is to approve interesting and meaningful locations, but the concept of what’s interesting in rural areas is different than urban areas. That’s not fair and it’s not inclusive.
Rural players shouldn’t be expected to create murals or build infrastructure just to make the game playable.
All I’m asking is for a fair chance to have something local approved.
Thanks for your time.
And how are you making a Bus Stop Meaningful or Interesting?
We are wayfarers the same as you, we do not make the rules but everyone has the same rules. That is how games work.
Pokemon Go is a real world game and unfortunately this makes it harder for some than others.
Someone stated that people should accept a tree in someone yard! Where does it stop.
I have given my advice above, it is your choice whether you want to accept it or not.
Good luck.
Trying to get a nomination through that doesn’t match the criteria is the definition of Abuse in Wayfarer.
You may already be doing this, but if you carefully observe your daily commute or route to school, or take a different route even if it means going out of your way, you may find something worth submitting. I don’t know for sure, but there may be shops and cafes where you go shopping. Please don’t give up.

Wayfarer is much more fun when you can change your mindset from “I want this to be a Pokestop” to “This would make a great Wayspot.” It is much more successful that way, too.
If you would like to leave a location for us to look at on Maps, a lot of people here are good at finding things to suggest you submit.

Thanks, I appreciate that.
The street where that bus stop is at would be good (roughly from R. Raposa 746, 4415-313 Pedroso to 41.0789561, -8.5740989) or anything North of it.
If anyone’s willing to take a look and see if there’s anything worth nominating or something I’ve overlooked, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks.
How about the following restaurant?
Trilogia do casal lda
Located at R. Caracol 625, 4415-181 Pedroso, Portugal, Trilogia do casal lda is a restaurant specializing in traditional Portuguese cuisine. Customer reviews often praise the high quality of the food and the friendly service, with special mentions of dishes like “moamba” and “galinhada.” The atmosphere is described as informal and welcoming.
There seems to be another bagel shop to the south of there. I couldn’t find any information about it on Google. I don’t think the pin on Google Maps is in the right location, but I’m sure you, as a local, would know.
To me I see a few issues. One there isn’t adequate room for people to stand and battle a gym or pull off and safely park, there also isn’t any kind of information or entertainment. It’s just a bus stop. If ya look at others around the world(like in my area all bus shelters are painted with murals or have information about the city or street or block or a building near by) maybe if ya put up a nice piece of art work or something that makes it a little more entertaining it would get approved. But that’s just what I have seen in all other pokestops or gyms. It’s something of interest not just a random spot on a map.
Not being able to find interesting things to submit to wayfarer is a consequence of an area not having interesting things. This doesn’t just affect wayfarer and Pokemon Go, but affects life in general. For example, the spaces around and in-between the large apartment buildings are dull and boring.
Hunting around locally using streetview, I only found a possibility at the following location:
41.081078, -8.567918 (fountain? noticeboard?)

There seems to be some sort of ornate drinking fountain at 41.072912551665816, -8.562262671879198 , Could anybody work this in to a nomination?

You’re not wrong, but that’s how the system is currently designed. Niantic designed Wayfarer to be game agnostic, and a map of great places to explore, exercise, and socialize regardless of where those points of interest are.
Wayfarer doesn’t care if you have no points of interest in your town, or your play area. It sound harsh, but that’s the way the system is designed. Pokémon GO, Ingress (Before the split), and to a lesser extent Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now just took their in-game interaction points from that map.
Hot take here, but if you have a problem with not having Pokéstops or Gyms in your area that’s a Pokémon GO team problem and not a Wayfarer problem. You should be petitioning the PoGO team to come up with a way to create more stops in your area and not asking the Wayfarer program to bend it’s rules because you have nothing interesting near you.
