Can ingress photo likes be removed from influencing the main portal photo in Pokemon go?

I have been finding it a little frustrating when trying to update photos in areas where the lead wayspot photos are 8-10+ years old. I am thankful for what the early ingress explorers/agents did for the game, but sometimes I come across something really old, and I have recruited a small army of pokemon photo likers, but even when the thumbs up pass the original photo, there is a hidden ingress photo thumbs up number. Because of this, I don’t know exactly when the new photo will eventually take over as the main wayspot photo.

I believe in the case of the game’s age (and the separation of games) maybe it would be beneficial if photos that are older than 8 years, maybe have their upvotes reset, or no longer have ingress votes influencing the wayspot photo? Just thinking of an easy way to update photos and reflect more current time. Some photos I have tried to update look like they belong in a horror movie, late night full flash photos of random playground equipment, weird orientations, very visibly taking from a travelling cars. (nothing that meets removal criteria mostly, just preference I guess?) I’m not the best at coming up with suggestions on how to this fix this, but thought I would just vent my frustration in this uphill struggle sometimes!

There is not much you can do but raise more photo “thumb up” armies. Each photo have its own right to be there. There might be reason why that photo has more like than yours

These trapped votes got trapped when moving from Ingress as the database to Lightship. Is Lightship still the database for Wayfarer now that Scopely owns Wayfarer? I think Lightship is still Niantic. Wouldn’t it be great if all the trapped votes vanished with the separation?

Your examples sound like some of the extremes could be removed.

IF there are better photos attached, I have had success asking Help Chat to remove photos taken through windshields or with poor orientation.

I have a church gym nearby, where I have liked the new photo (the logo was changed) in both Ingress and Pokemon Go. The main photo was changed in Ingress but has not been changed in Pokemon Go. Mine is the only vote, so I think there’s more here than old Ingress votes hanging around in pogo.

IMO: Votes should automatically be removed after a set time. Older images have a large advantage.

Example:

  • Waypoint from the early days, good photo, gets plenty of votes.
  • The Waypoint is changed in a way that is not repurposing. (War memorial gets new planters around it, local shop gets a revamp with new logo etc).
  • New photo gets added but needs more votes than the original when there is less players in the area.

Personally I would suggest that votes are removed after 2 years, trainers can revote if the photo is still suitable.

I hope so, but I am gonna lean towards that this isn’t something they are going to rectify. I live in the suburbs of USA, so most of the time lead pokemon wayspots photos are 0-2 votes (even on ones 8+ years old!), but sometimes I will come across one, like for instance a memorial park near me, the lead photo says 5 votes in Pokemon Go, but my photo is currently at 10 votes. I’ve exhausted people I know who either willing to vote on a photo, or know how.

I believe if they are going to have a numbering system for votes, make it make sense. The larger displayed number should take priority. Hidden stuff shouldn’t be impacting votes, because then why display a number at all if it’s just a guessing game when a certain photo takes priority for the wayspot.

Thanks, there are a few that are really bad so maybe I will try using help chat for those. I just don’t want to make it sound like I am some special photographer whose photos should be the main pokestop photo because I am just so good. It’s not like that, I’ll leave old wayspots photos if the reflected wayspot really hasnt changed. I’ve been mostly going through old wayspots where there either has been a noticeable change in the area, or just trying to get a nice, clean day photo over something blurry, off center, strange distances, or hard to see night photo, etc.

If the older photo is no longer valid, it can be reported for removal.

Hi,

How much is required for “no longer required”.

As an example, say the War Memorial already had planters with standard bedding plants but is now planted as a Rose Bed. Is this enough?

or the local shop decides to change the name sign and use a different font, the rest of the building is the same. Is this enough to get it removed?

I know this sounds like I am being pedantic but it is not my intention, just want to get a feel for what is appropriate for removal.

Thanks.

If the Wayspot image doesn’t match the current object, it can be reported for removal. Like a mural replaced by another or local shop gets a revamp with new logo etc.
