Old photos

Greetings.
I’d like to know if old photos of wayspots that no longer reflects their current appearance due to, for example, new painting or renovation, can be asked to be removed for that reason. I have a few wayspots near my home that underwent renovations, new paintings with different color, change of plaques, etc. Those have new pictures of how it looks now, but the old ones are still there as the main photo.

I quite like seeing the history of the place through photos.
However if it is problematic you can use helpchat if a photo can be removed.

If you’d like to get the main picture updated to something more current, you can always “thumbs up” the best new photo in game and get your friends to do the same - this can be done remotely (through gifts in Pokemon Go, or Keys/Deeplinks in Ingress). The photo with the most votes should become the primary Wayspot photo in that game. If it’s an older Wayspot, the Ingress votes might have carried over - so be sure to look there too for vote totals! I recently helped a local Pokemon Go player change the photo on an older Wayspot when she couldn’t figure out why the photo with the most votes in Pokemon Go wasn’t appearing: it was because this older Wayspot photo had way more votes in Ingress that no Trainer could see.

Using upvotes to get the best, most currently accurate photo showing in game is a lot of fun! Doing so also keeps the old photos intact for those of us that like to dig into the Wayspot history, too.

I also like seeing the old photos, the history of the Wayspot. For example, if a Wayspot for a park is the park sign and that has changed over time, I still like to see what the old sign was. I’ll usually submit a new photo of the new sign if there isn’t one yet, or upvote the new sign in hopes of getting that as the main photo.

Otherwise, I only really ask for photo removals if they don’t meet criteria, such as having faces or license plates in them that could identify someone, blurry or very low quality, etc. I do submit a new photo before asking for removal, especially if there’s only 1 photo at the Wayspot and a replacement is needed before removal can be done.

Yeah, I know about the votes system and how it works, and that older photos have Ingress votes in PoGo. I even vote for the best and most current photos I can. I just wanted to know if these old photos could be requested to be removed if the POI changed appearances.
Sorry if I sounded rude, tho, but I didn’t know how to better express myself.

By the way, what would you classify as a low quality photo? Could be an over exposed pic or just a reduced resolution one?

Low quality could be over or under exposed, a bad light glare that makes the Wayspot in question hard to see in the photo, as well as low resolution. Here’s a list of what is considered a bad photo from the Photo Guidelines section.

The following should not be submitted and, when reviewing, should be considered as rejection criteria:

  • Copyrighted and 3rd party photos (e.g. watermarked stock photos and photos from maps sites)
  • Photos that are blurry or under/over exposed
  • Includes prominent people, body parts, or live animals
  • Pitch black photos where the Wayspot isn’t clearly visible
  • Photos taken from a car where the car dashboard or mirror is visible
  • Sideways or upside down photos
  • Faction/Player tagging (anything with game specific symbols)
  • Obviously edited or doctored photos
  • Exact duplicates of existing photos
  • Vandalized photos
  • Photos with recognizable faces or license plates
  • Photos of another location

Thank you. What are vandalized photos?

We have often debated that with no clear answer from staff. I tend to treat that as “photos of vandalism” since digital photos are not something that can be vandalized.
