Is it just me, or has the coal recently been really, really bad?
In the past 2 days I have gotten in my reviews: a childrens dentist’s office, a cell tower, a nursing home (with a screenshot of streetview as a main photo), a playground at a school (That already had an approved Wayspot on it), and TWO high schools in my hometown, a storm drain, and a handful of other just awful submissions.
Is this because eMiLy is taking a nap?
Is the queue normally filled with this much garbage? Because if she’s filtering out this much trash then we all owe her cookies. Tons and tons of cookies
Please come home. We apologize for all the bad things that we said about you when you rejected our bad photos and just pure coal nominations. We promise to do better in the future. Please come home, we need you!
Personally, I support Emily’s right to take a break. Sometimes people don’t appreciate how well a thing works until it is gone. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that.
Sorry, I strongly disagree with this sentiment. AI or ML can be used to handle very obviously ineligible submissions. Sometimes it rejects nominations that it should have let through to the community, but the vast majority of things it auto-rejects are appropriate.
I used to hate Emily because more often than not, it rejected my perfectly valid submission in the past.
Now? I am glad Emily is here, for a lot of reason:
A. It improve skill of the submitter, on taking photo, writing quality submission. I didn’t get an auto reject after my first 35 submissions, and it is not a coincidence.
B. It greatly reduced your “In Voting” time, because Emily remove a lot of bad submission, your good submission ended up being reviewed faster. It took really long to have a result now thanks to Emily down.
Lots of reviewers can see the difference in the quality of submissions that are coming through for review. It is much easier to appreciate something when it’s gone and you realise how useful it actually was.
It will be a relief if eMiLyreturns and I don’t have to wade through street names, road speed signs, random trees, EIIR postboxes, etc in order to review something that has potential, even if I then reject most of the ones that eMiLy doesn’t remove.
I’ve always been a vocal supporter of eMiLy, and the sharp increase in terrible submissions that I’ve been seeing since she was taken offline only has me appreciating the work that she does even more. While I do agree that she rejects things that might otherwise be acceptable, the good far outweighs the bad, and it’s very noticeable.
If you have nominations that you feel are being unfairly rejected by eMiLy, you can share them in Nomination Support and someone would be thrilled to help you.
