This path is wide and shaded, making it the perfect place to not cross the street.
Supplemental Information
This is generally a good meet up spot as it’s where all the Eller College students meet and it’s the start of the path most honors students take to walk to class. It’s also pretty and relaxing.
I think this should be a great spot as it’s walkable, has social areas on the route, and has a dedicated bike path on it, but it got rejected for some reason.
It was in voting for a few days along with others before I got on this morning to find multiple submissions “declined by Niantic’s automated process”.
Should I appeal it or resubmit it? Any suggestions?
Don’t appeal or resubmit. It is simply not eligible as a wayspot. It doesn’t mean the basic criteria of being a great place for being Social, Exercising or Exploring. Simply being a place where you can be social, can exercise or can explore is not sufficient, because this would mean everything everywhere.
Social - somewhere that is intended to be a good place to meet up. Cafes. Museums. Pubs/bars. Libraries. etc
Exercise - somewhere that is intended to be a good place for exercise. Trail markers. Outdoor gyms. Swimming pools. Actual gyms. etc
Exploration - something you would be happy to find and would show others what you have found.
A subway is part of general infrastructure and doesn’t meet any of these criteria.
It’s not a subway though? It’s an underpass built specifically for students so they don’t have to cross a major road, it also connects to a popular meet-up spot and the art building
The meet-up spot might be eligible. The arts building might be. The pathway that is near to them needs /something/ that makes it more than just infrastructure.
It wouldn’t qualify because of the foliage either? This is Tucson, Arizona and having a nice pretty shaded path like that is kind of rare, I’m pretty sure everything there was planted because it was desert before
Sorry to tell you that the foliage doesn’t help for a wayspot submission, as nice as it is. I understand why you want this space to be in the game, because it does have value as urban infrastructure, but it just doesn’t have anything to make it more than that. If it was a walkway that had a name and a plaque, that plaque might be eligible.
No, shaded paths do not meet criteria on their own.
Please review the Wayspot criteria to get a better idea of what may or may not be eligible. You may want to review the Criteria Clarification Collection, as it covers some of the most discussed POIs.
Alright, I read everyone’s input and considered it. I’ll look around to see if there’s a marker or something if I resubmit it, maybe the bike path markers would work but I doubt it.
It was in voting for a few days and then rejected by the ai so I was mainly wondering why it got rejected.
@Zanizbar was it built in the last few years for exactly the reason you mentioned (to help students security and fast track them through the campus?) and is there any online source therefore?
There’s a decent chance that @NianticAaron understands the criteria behind wayspots. Claiming you know better than Niantic for a game created and run by Niantic is curious.
I figured it was since it was here since I got on campus for freshman year, but after looking it turns out it’s older, so I’m having a hard time finding construction details
I did find an article on renovating the pavement to make it safer from 2023-2025
and an article from 2005 announcing a rules change to allow people to ride their bikes there more often
Ok thanks
If you think about resubmitting I’d make photos of the underpath itselves and explain how it served the students. You can always add links to your supporting informations (but never in the description!).
But tbh I don’t think that this underpath on it’s own have high chances
I did think of submitting with better photos of the underpass entrance, but it’s most likely that it was built to be a part of the infrastructure here, to allow a walkway under the highway. I really don’t see a high probability of approval even with better photos as it’s mainly just a sidewalk.
Also, the U of Arizona is a huge university. I’d imagine there are more interesting and unique POIs here that haven’t been discovered yet, like with all large Us in the US.
I don’t live anywhere near Arizona, but I know of this university. It’s huge, very large. It’s in the top tier for NCAA college sports, Division I. Over 55,000 students enrolled.
This runs under Speedway Blvd, and it does appear to just be a par of the infrastructure to get around campus, and not a part of any official trail. If it was a part of a trail, I’d be more in favor of it, but it’s just a sidewalk to get around campus.
And no, I don’t find this to be something to laugh about, as it’s a huge campus.
My laughing emoji was for the wayfarer-adventure-flame I could read out of your comment, so my implemented suggestion for jumping in your car and make those submission on your own, was the joke I’m laughing about.
Nothing wrong with your provided tipps.
