Coronation Walk 2023 - Trail Marker?

Hey All,

While I am undecided on this I’ve thought I’ll put this out here for your bemusal and comments.

Now as a British Person and most international places are aware the Queen Elizabeth II recently passed away and her Son Charles 3rd Took Over as Monarch in 2023.

Now from this point the Coronation Walk was created in and around our Town and this spans quite a way around Telford.

But… (You were expecting one of these wasn’t you)

These have mostly appeared as “Stickers” in the most obscure of places on lampposts and metal frame work and posts just like another route called the Monarch’s Way (and has website information about what it is) However these are Hard Plastic Discs mostly nailed to Posts.

So…do we class these “stickers” as a trail marker as I’m a little concerned they could be peeled off and placed elsewhere to create fake waypoints.

For me Lampposts/Street lights/Street Furniture are mass produced objects and are not unique.

Let the discussion begin @NianticAaron may find this interesting to monitor too

They are a marker on a trail. What is the problem?

Someone could paint over the mural I added, the museum could be closed down, the statue could be moved…

The T50 Markers are mostly Nailed Disks and not stickers as well,I find them nailed to wooded steps so would you count the steps as a trail marker as well going up Into a wooded area ??

A Trail Marker to me is a Post in the ground designating a direction to follow that will most likely be permanent fixture.

These stickers could be peeled off and placed elsewhere in the land or removed entirely.

I prefer to think of the trail as the permanent feature.

The plastic discs can be removed, the post they are on can be kicked over etc

Do they appear to be permanent, heavy duty-vinyl markers that are used for trails rather than something someone has printed at home? If they are that easy to peel off, maybe they should not be considered permanent, official markers are usually well adhered.

Are there links to the trail to prove is it an official legitimate route and goes through this location?

Has the submitter made good effort to prove their claims, taken clear pictures and shown the surroundings to confirm location adequately? Does each one have a unique title and good description?

I used to dislike these and until recent changes thought that Niantic considered them to be ineligible, in recent times that seems to have changed, however the Wayfarer team are awful at clarity so it’s hard to be certain. It seems that many accept these nowadays if effort is made with the submission.

It’s basically as I submitted the photo.

There was an address of where this “sticker” is in the area

There isn’t any info on the sticker just the name of the trail,I would say the trail is real but no web Info is on the sticker to look it up,some trail markers I come by even have a QR Code on them but when I scan them the document is no longer available online at its location.

I’m curious that this is also a rebadging of the existing “Monarchs Way” Route nearby and nothing new but there is plenty of information online about this route.

You don’t need the info to be on the sticker. A quick Google brings up a fair amount of information confirming that this is a genuine trail, including the trail website that has guides, maps and all sorts. It seems to share some paths with the Monarchs Way. all good stuff to include in the supporting information of any submission for this trail.

Post in the ground with plastic arrow disc, completely ruined

“Sticker”, perfect condition many years later

Both trails are permanent with documentation available which I linked. People get so uptight about the material of the marker, but its the trail that matters, not the markers. The markers just help you follow the trail, and the section of trail is the point of interest.

To be clear fellow U.K. person

But also perhaps you have missed  ( how could you :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) my repeated postings on the change of language around these that I have been urging.
We really shouldn’t be using the term stickers as it instantly contours up a mental picture of cheap and temporary which is not a good reflection of what they are.
The vinyl adhesive trail markers. Very robust, and meant to be permanent.
Apart from that why do we pick out what these are made of when we don’t do the same for other types?
It is the trail that is important.
The markers are simply anchors for the trail no matter what it is made of. So focus on the trail

PS I know Telford has a lot of trails as they are in my normal review field .

So that’s where they are going then is it Give them Telford Things back to me then @elijustrying stop pinching the good stuff…they keep giving me stuff 200-500 miles away I even had one in France yesterday

This makes me wonder what your bonus location or home locations are set as to pick them up.:thinking::thinking::face_with_raised_eyebrow::face_with_raised_eyebrow::face_with_raised_eyebrow:

My play area covers from LakeDistrict to top of London, so that is why I get Telford. But then we get any priority ones from U.K. so that just about covers the rest of U.K. :joy:
I’m a slow sporadic reviewer(reading and answering here takes up time :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) so I doubt I’m stealing many from you :sunglasses:

The posts in the ground could easily be dug up and pulled out as well.

It shouldn’t matter what the trail marker looks like or what it’s made of. You should look at what it represents, which is a unique section of a hiking/biking trail.

@NianticAaron

I think the vinyl markers are perfectly acceptable, they can easily outlast wooden posts. We have some trails using them in the next town over. Sadly Niantic didn’t like them and decided to remove all markers, even the ones that are screwed/bolted to wooden posts. Since some local players got temporarily banned over them, I started to avoid nominating vinyl markers.

Just imagine how happy they would make their playerbase and how much goodwill they would earn with the community if Niantic would just stop being so uptight about what is and isn’t a “valid” trail marker.

I fell like I’ve opened a mixed bag of worms here with this post.

And to think I was also a bit sore over my generic roadside postbox nomination being rejected while trying to cover more of a vast area between waypoints

I suspect it’s @PkmnTrainerJ as they like postboxes if I recall runs & hides
