Yet another proof why Vinyl Stickers are good Trailmarkers and are permanent just as plaques

This Picture Shows a Vinyl Sticker wich acts as a Trailmarker for a hiketrail established in 2013, 11 years ago.

Obviously, the Sticker is in Mint fresh condition. Here you can see that those Stickers easily Last for a Decade, and even if they get damaged they get replaced in the same spot, so they are absolutely permanent and are fully viable POI.

I wanted to share this, because this is a rare occasion where anyone can see for how long this marker persisted in this spot. I think it is hard to argue against those stickers beeing permanent with this one in mind.

Agreed. The sticker markers here are extremely durable as well and they are well-maintained. If one is damaged or removed, you can report it and itā€™ll be replaced in no time.

I am encouraging a change of language about these.
The word sticker tends to make people think of the simple sticker badges that are used on clothing or small items and are cheap to produce.
However the style and material of these is very different.
So I suggest in full - flexible vinyl trail marker if you need to refer to the type.
I do find it odd that there is such a focus on the material. I donā€™t put wood, metal or plastic for example in for other types.
All including vinyl are used as they provide a long term object. And the marker is simply an anchor for the trail.

100% agree

The focus on material is so irrelevant to what the marker represents and how permanent the trail is.

No amount of Niantic statements about ā€œstickersā€ will get me to reject these based on permanence. These vinyl adhesive markers are excellent quality and really long lasting.

Could it be that there is concern that people could just print these and ā€œstickā€ them anywhere; whereas a post in the ground with a metal or wood sign is harder to fake?

Itā€™s a trail marker. Reviewers should be a able to find a trail route quickly (if provided with a link)

I repeat it again: itā€™s as good as any other trail marker and will get people to walk outside. Niantic should be happy that people are submitting wandering trails because thereā€™s nothing better for the game in rural and remote areas. People are happy because theyā€™re able to walk a good route and get fresh air and great panoramas.

The database is at an age where you can safely say that Niantic wonā€™t be able to upmarket this as a golden goose.

Thereā€™s no special interest for anyone besides having this as the database for Pokemon go.

The key is the trail not the marker. The onus is always to demonstrate that this is an official route someone can follow.
I suspect if someone wanted to fake a whole trail they would do so. That one method might appear easier to fake should not affect it being considered as acceptable.
So if there is a concern it should be set to one side, and dealt with separately from eligibility.

What are the chances that Emily is already accepting markers and info plaques downloaded online, laminated and stuck around forests, nature spots?

Should be easy enough to deal with.

Sticker markers that come with a proper source that they are actually on an official trail should be fine.

No source, no acceptance.

Emily recognised mine as on a proper trail

How do we know that?

I know 100% that Emily is accepting things similar to this it shouldnā€™t. The logical conclusion isnā€™t that Emily is verifying the ā€˜officialnessā€™ if that doesnā€™t apply to every case.

You got me :sunglasses:
I donā€™t know what Emily looks for or recognises in their programming.
Just that this official trail using a flexible permanent vinyl marker was deemed acceptable.

I must not use lose terminology

Not at all :slightly_smiling_face:

Iā€™ve seen more than one and a friend who has made maybe 5 submissions in total and done 20 reviews but they didnā€™t enjoy judging someone elseā€™s efforts so stopped had something similar accepted. They just thought it looked interesting and to be fair it isā€¦ Just not eligible.

I could submit the 30 others Iā€™ve seen around and Iā€™m pretty sure a lot would be auto accepted.

I could report it but

A. Itā€™s not my place to police and jobsworth Nianticā€™s map for them.

B. I value local players and people more than a private companies map.

Also Iā€™ve only get 10 submissions left and I need them :smiling_face_with_tear:

Iā€™m going waaaay of topic too.

I can only speak for germany:

making fake Stickers of this kind would not be legal.
There would be a fine to pay and those would be removed in no-time.

Also you can se the difference between an normal sticker and a 2mm thick vinyl plaque very clearly. You can also look up the trail or look for other wayspots featuring this trail in the vincinity.

oh joy!!

yet more mass-produced generic trail markers to ā€œcelebrateā€

Those are not ā€œMass-Producedā€.

Those are unique to their Trail, and only the Organisation taking care of the trail (in this Case the Westerwaldverein) has them.

You can not buy those in masses at Amazon, Ebay or your local store, you have to oder them at a place that specifically produces plaques of this kind. This is the opposite of Mass-Produced.

Educate yourself about hiking traditions before talking nonsense, please.

If one of the 3 criteria is ā€œexerciseā€, why shouldnā€™t we celebrate trails?

Hopefully. All games benefit from more wayspots.

Hello @mcwomble
The latest criteria clarification

Explains about trailmarkers.
The key being itā€™s about the trail or path not the actual marker.
