Ok, so there is a former tennis court that had been remodeled, and is now half a pickleball court and half a basketball court. Typically, Niantic wants anything that has changed to be removed, then added again, and thus I requested removal instead of editing. It had the title of Tennis Courts, and the only photo is for when it was still a tennis court.
So, I received the decision on the removal request today, and it was rejected. Also, Niantic changed the title and description, as the title in the rejection email is now Pickleball Courts, and the description also mentions so when viewed in Lightship. Again, I didn’t submit any edits, just a removal request.
So, are we able to update a sports court/field to the correct sport if there has been a change via editing? I assumed that there were very few places that we could edit if there was a change, like murals.
I guess it will make nominating the basketball court easier when I’m back there, and moving the pickleball court to the right location as well, but still, wondering about this.
Technically, pickleball is a type of tennis. So, I understand why they thought just renaming it was OK.
The larger issue, IMO, is where the pin is located now based on how the area has changed. Since the pickleball court is only on half of the fenced area, I think the basketball court deserves its own POI. But if the now renamed POI is on the basketball side, it needs to be moved to the pickleball side.
Yeah, unfortunately, I don’t know when I’ll be back in the area to request a location edit and submit the basketball court. It’s an area with very few game players (I won’t rant on the Power Spot play there), and I’ve been the one submitting most of the new Wayspots and editing older ones.
I’ll also update the title/description/photo of the pickleball court, as per the city park district, it’s the Westside Pickleball Court, not just Pickleball Courts.
Edit: Actually, the pin is on the pickleball side on Google Maps, so it’s correct. The basketball court is on the south side, the pickleball is on the north side.
Given that you submitted no edits, what are we to understand happened here?
Is the photo an old one from when there was a tennis court? Did you provide the photo as evidence of the new point of interest? Was your removal request combined with another explorer’s edit, or did Niantic supply the new title/description themselves?
It is not clear where the purpose resides that Niantic references but has left undefined.
A playground is still a playground even if all of the equipment is changed, but the old photo will no longer match the POI. If pickleball is still tennis, why were the title and description changed?
If they change the title, description and photo, what happens to the original underlying purpose?
Are parks another special case (like murals) that are exceptions to the rule?
I wonder how we are meant to keep track of this stuff without written rules.
My removal request email. I uploaded a photo to Imgur and provided the link in the comment box via PoGo. Again, removal request was what I submitted, not any edits. The image is old, and they could have done the edits based on part of my comment.
This is why I was confused when the rejection email came and the title had been changed. Niantic had to have done the title/description changes; I really don’t know any who do Wayfarer in this area.
Now, I did get 2 closed businesses and a removed mural Wayspots removed in this area. 1 of the businesse has a new business in the building, but it was removed, not updated.
Personally, I would find it surprising that Niantic would have bothered acting upon the comments you made in your report/appeal. And would have assumed, even with your comment about you being the only known wayfarer in the community, that there may have been another edit in the queue.
Well, finally back where the courts are. Got edits submitted to the pickleball court, including correcting the title/description and adding a new photo. Did submit the basketball court. Just giving an update.
