Five Gyms Removed in Vienna, Austria

Over the last few weeks, we’ve had several gyms removed from the inner city area of Vienna. The gyms have vanished, and no pokestops have come back in their spots except for the one that someone contacted support about. Unfortunately, this has been very demoralizing for our players. I would love for these stops to be reinstated, or at least to know why they have disappeared so that I can pass it on to our community. Everyone always jumps to the assumption that the removal is malicious. Thanks!

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome @singinglupines

The one that has been reinstated as a stop will probably remain as a stop as the auto system will have recalculated and created a new gym.

For those removed completely staff might need to see current photos (geotagged) to show that the place or object is still viable as a wayspot and that use hasn’t changed.

It is possible that some may be owner requests to remove the wayspots entirely.

Hey,

Unfortunately, we do not have the tools to control what type of in-game location a Wayspot becomes after it is restored.

There is another Wayspot connected to this university at this location.

This Wayspot is inside a roundabout without safe pedestrian access.

Lacks safe pedestrian access.

I have restored this Wayspot.

Thanks,

Thanks for your quick response! That is what I figured about Lustige Pinguine, but good to know.

Is it possible to appeal Johann Andreas von Liebenberg? This is actually a major pedestrian route. The monument itself is surrounded by a sidewalk and this is a path well-frequented by many walking along the Ringstrasse, including tourists taking photos. I’ve marked the sidewalks in red and the dots represent the street crossing. The curbs are lowered at these points. The major road is marked by Universitätsring.

I understand your sentiments. However, the absence of a zebra crossing or a clear demarcation is what worries me. The SV is old at this location. If they have been added now or if there is a traffic signal to facilitate the passage of pedestrians, I will be happy to reconsider.

I think the dropped kerb that can be seen in the bottom screen shot could be considered a good indicator that the intention is to facilitate pedestrian access.
i appreciate the policy asks for zebra crossings but it has become quite common in many European areas to make areas pedestrian friendly / pedestrians first.

Unfortunately, streetview is still accurate to what it currently looks like so nothing extra beyond the dropped curb. If it helps, there’s also a Hop On, Hop Off tourist bus stop there in front of the monument. Vienna rarely has crossings marked except at very busy intersections and when the next zebra crossing is far enough away. (Which as elijustrying mentioned must be more of a European thing. As an American, it’s definitely quite different than what I’m used to.)

Alright. Based on the additional context provided by you and @elijustrying , I have restored the Wayspot.
