Fixing a waypoint / submitting a picture waypoint problem

Hey Explorer I have run into one issue. I have submitted 2 Pictures to the waypoint to fix their waypoint Picture or add additional pictures for fun.
The pictures back then used to be accepted by the Niantic Team since then when it started to go through the voting process. It’s taking 3+ weeks and it hasn’t gone through yet. When im nominate a waypoint it goes through in 2 to 7 Days depending on how much time the voting process takes but this is not the case when editing or submitting a picture to fix a waypoint picture/title / or description.

A month ago I fixed a description of one Mosque and I fixed a mosque name. Did you know how long it took? A Month! I used the upgrade to make it through within the next 4 days. :frowning:

The question is: when editing the description/title or adding a photo. If this started to go through a voting process when the timing is gonna get fixed or the description edit or photo submission show up for the reviewers? It seems like it’s not showing up because im also noticing this issue when reviewing waypoints. Im only getting submissions rather than edit or photo submissions.

I get photos to review every day. The queue does not appear to be broken to me.

A month is normal. You probably havent feel submit and forget (approval/rejection comes years later)
Anyways personally it take few to several months until review complete

As you have been told elsewhere, there is nothing unusual about photo reviews taking above 16 days or above 4 days.

Just a clarification here: ML, the AI system, and staff do not make decisions on all submissions, including photos and edits. Before ML, they used to be voted on mainly by reviewers, with some reviews being done by staff. Since ML, they can be approved/rejected by ML, but it can also send submissions into queue to be reviewed. If staff reviews anything, it will be listed as Under Review with the Niantic games logo next to it.

Once edits and photo submissions were added to Contribution Management about a year ago, many saw that they had edits and photos that were still in voting after several years. This has greatly improved since then, but it does depending on the number of reviewers in your area, and how many reviews needed for a decision isn’t disclosed.

A month isn’t that long, as I’ve had several months for any type of submission, especially in rural areas with little to no reviewers.

In Saudi arabia average submissions take 2 to 4 Days in worst cases 7 days but when you’re submitting an edit or photo submissions it take about 3 weeks.
When reviewing waypoints edit. You will find 1 out of 30 submissions. What it looks like.

What if this get fixed and take equal time as waypoint submissions?

There is nothing to fix. 3 weeks is normal

Edits and photos, from my experience, take longer to be decided upon by the community than a regular Wayspot nomination. I have title/description edits still in voting, and I submitted them about a month ago. in that time, I’ve had 3 Wayspot nominations approved that I submitted later.

My normal submission review time here is under a week but I have edits in the system since the beginning of November.

This is Bad and Niantic needs to do something about this. They need to make contribution system equal to submission. Like half of them need to show submissions and half of them need to be waypoints edit (description or title) or photo submissions.

Im Raising my voice for the contribution community. As a person who edit and submit photo and keeping waypoint up to date. I care about this.

I will address this one problem here. The waypoint edit or photo submissions are hardly showing up to the explorers compare to waypoints edit or photo submissions. What im saying here is that both of them need to show up equally so it has to go through fast just like submissions do.

There’s no problem though. The queue is working as it should from what others have experienced. And I get plenty of edits and photos to review all the time.

Again, the number of reviews needed isn’t disclosed, and this is noted in the Wayfarer FAQ:

How many reviews does it take to make a final decision on a Wayspot’s eligibility?

This exact number cannot be disclosed at this time, however, we can say that this depends on the performance of each individual Wayfinder.

Another thing to keep in mind is that reviewers can skip edits and photo reviews, just like they can skip nominations, so that could add to the timeframe for resolution.

You just need toi give them time at this point.

Edits and sometimes photos are obvious to the submitter but often not to the reviewer. That causes a lot of skips and a lack of consensus.

The imbalance is likely a result of there being far more new wayspot submissions than edits for existing wayspots. And it’s probably in everyone’s interest if new wayspots clear the queue quicker than edits for wayspots that already exist.

And to be completely honest, it’s really rich complaining about a photo submission for a wayspot that you used a third party photo for and are trying to fix because you got caught. Again, make sure you report yourself whenever your non-third party photo is accepted so Niantic can remove the stolen photo.

Hello,
@Faisalkhan12500
just checking I have understood your query correctly. From what I read here the first issue was about a specific edit tgat was taking time and that has expanded into a wider issue that you have concerns about is the review flow, and the time taken for edits in particular.
A number of people have given their accounts that it can take time for edits to resolve. I will add that I have edits from November in voting.
So I think we can all agree it can take time. So what you describe for your specific situation is nothing unusual.

Looking beyond that to the review flow in general…..
It does seem reasonable that nominations seem to flow through quicker than edits.
The original wayspot should be essentially fine so the edit is more of a nice thing to make it better.
The system is a global one and it seems to be working better than it used to be……the bad old days of 2022 seem to be consigned to history.
Biggest problems seem to happen when there is not a good balance between submitting and reviewing. So the best thing to try and help is to encourage local wayfinders to review.

Is this ever going to get updated where the photo submissions or waypoint edit get balance between waypoint submissions and waypoint edits in the future?

The only way to get faster clearance is by making more review. Try to engage your community and ask them for more review as each area might have different queue depending how many backlog.

Hi,

Nearly everyday there will be some comment on this forum about why is my nomination taking so long / how long will it take.
It’s in everyone’s interest to get those nominations assessed quickly. As submitters that’s what people want to see.
As a reviewer it is not a pleasant experience seeing page after page of text edits, location moves, sometimes photos can be nice. I review to help keep the queue moving and to help my fellow wayfinders get their wayspots.
It is great when the computer program Emily quickly accepts photos. It helps keep the amount of edits low.
So changing the balance is not something that needs tinkering with.

It’s commendable that you are so keen to ensure that wayspots read correctly and that photos accurately reflect their current state, but you need to accept that it will take time. So I would suggest concentrating your efforts on reviewing to help that queue to flow.

This picture went through very fast upon submitting it

That was great, as the auto bot Emily said yes.

For ones not deemed acceptable by Emily you just have to wait.
