Former Prison - Acceptable or Not

Hey All,

I’m seeing quite a few nominations pop up for a Former Prison in the next town, while it has been used for many TV locations and dramas as well I wouldn’t have thought it would be an appropriate location to play our games unless it has been turned into a museum as such.

I suspect it’s also Private Property but as I haven’t been there ever I’m not sure where the nominations are coming from but it seems like someone is documenting every part of site from the gate house, the internal chapel, the exercise court, etc.

It’s a tough one but I see someone else is slowly approving them as acceptable.

Any insight would be appreciated as always.

I just saw that one myself. It’s a museum now, so I guess this would make it eligible.

Sounds like a great place to explore if its no longer a prison but is part of the town’s culture and history. Especially if its a museum

Private property isn’t actually a rejection reason - only private residential property for a single family (ie a house). So that part doesn’t matter either

I would have given consideration if it had been turned into flats, ( the most likely other out one) given the historic nature. Some of these are culturally important.
And it’s back to each nomination case should be considered on it’s individual merits.

I remember getting some nominations for a former prison that is now a boutique hotel and shopping mall. It also has historic tours and many historical exhibits. Since it’s open to the public, I had no issue approving the nominations.

This one may be used for film and TV productions, but being it’s also a museum that can be visited by the public, I see no issues with it either. Film and TV sets aren’t off-limits; many at the oldest Hollywood lots have Wayspots at the different sound stages, marking the different productions that have been filmed there. The public can take tours at the lots, so they make a great place to explore.

The main point is if it used to be used as something that qualifies for a sensitive location but is no longer being used as such, it’s no longer a sensitive location. If it was still an active prison, that would be ineligible for sensitive location, but former prisons being used as something else are not ineligible locations.

I have had nominations on prison grounds accepted before. As long as the public can access it safely, it shouldn’t be an issue.

In my case it was a monument to remember the old building (hospital) that was destroyed to build the prison
