Hi guys not sure if this best place to ask this but my local university has several sites which seems like they would be eligible - monuments, memorial plaques etc but I noticed a few not make it into POGO or ingress. These are often ones located directly on the buildings. My assumption is this may be a geoblocked location but I have noticed several power spots in POGO pop up.
So I was wandering if we know how they interact before I continue nominating potential portals on wayfarer.
Only some Power Spots come from the Spatial map and are unused Wayspots. Others are imported from 3rd party maps. You can read about this here:
It’s possible that your university is geoblocked from Wayspots, but since not all Power Spots come from Wayspots, the ones you may be seeing might be imports.
Are you able to provide a location for one of these Power Spots so this could be looked further into?
Not everything that is accepted meets the rules to appear in games.
If you could give an example Wayspot title and co ordinates we can have a look and see.
Ingress has a different proximity rule. A wayspot needs to be at least 20 metres from an existing Portal in order to become a Portal in Ingress. The Foundation Stone is not eligible to appear in Ingress as a result of this.
From what Hank noted, sounds like this isn’t a geoblocked area, which is uncommon at universities, but I’ve seen one with a geoblock, a small private university in the US. The University of Derby isn’t geoblocked, since there are several Wayspots in the area.
Usually, if there is a geoblock, Wayspots wouldn’t be able to be added and most likely would be rejected. These geoblocks would also typically be requested by the university management or ownership to Niantic, which they do have a right to do.
