Same username seems like a safe giveaway.
They can just take a common sense approach and allow things that are only posted here or on the wayfarer subreddit. Asking for advice amd sharing wayfarer knowlegde should be encouraged - and if people are prevented from having eligible items accepted because they asked for help on reddit, that’s a terrible user experience
People can impersonate others. It’s very common on the internet.
I remember Aaron had provided some answer in the past but I don’t exactly remember what. Subreddit is not an official Niantic platform. If they can make an exception for that why not for other platforms?
Is this the comment you were thinking of?
and on the same topic
Yes, thank you.
It always feels like such a juxtaposition when they take these stances but won’t remove confirmed 3rd party photos from existing Wayspots.
I don’t want to be mean but the Wayfarer subreddit is still on Reddit which is a different Platform legally. Very frustrating situation but it is still third party
I know its a different platform but if its my photo and all I did was ask some wayfarers for advice on it, why is it 3rd party? It’s still my photo and I didn’t steal it. So why punish me for trying to get information to help my wayfarering?
I understand staff’s decision with these cases but think they could clean up text in the submission process, criteria pages, and review page to make it clear they mean images shared on external hosting sites, not strictly “3rd party images.”
Not a punishment, but most social media platforms (including Reddit) partially own your photos once you upload them to it. Meaning that while you retain intellectual ownership of the photos, you technically give the platform permission to license the photo and use it as they please, including using it for promotional material etc. That makes it difficult for Wayfarer to accept them as unique content, even if you have taken the photos originally.
