How much help can I give with a nomination query

Hi,

I have created this topic so that I can split and move a discussion from a separate topic in a sensible way.

There is nothing wrong with lending a helping hand. That what this forum in all about, assisting a Wayfarer in need. @Satin789 Can take my suggestion and do with it what they please. I ask nothing in return.

We should not be writing titles/descriptions/supporting info for others, as this could be seen as 3rd party, and lead to more asking for writing help. Many are already weary of AI writing for nominations, as it seems unnatural. All writing should be in the natural writing of the submitter, not someone else. To me, it is a little like cheating, like having someone write your term paper instead of doing the work yourself.

Besides, there was nothing wrong with the title/description here; a better main photo is needed and some additional supporting info.

That’s fine. I like to help and people seem to like the help I give. I don’t think it’s against criteria to offer suggestions. Again, I think it’s the nature and goal of this forum. For the more experienced wayfinders to impart knowledge and wisdom to the less experienced wayfinders.

I’m going to continue to help people who are looking for it.

At the end of the day, the goal is to have the best eligible POI, picture, title and description on the nomination so it shows up in game the best it can.

If that is two or three people assisting in getting the nomination right? I’m cool with that.

If you think it cheating, that’s easy. Don’t offer help writing. I’m here for the people, here on the forum and the podcast.

Yeah, I do think it’s cheating.

I have to admit that not using text from the forums if you have asked for advise is a little bit strong with the “no 3rd party text” rule which I believe is to stop people grabbing text straight from official websites / facebook pages etc.

But if doing so could get the nomination rejected then tweaking the text is the way to go.

I don’t see it as any different to when people crop someone’s photo and say “Take another image zoomed in so it looks like this”.

What if the OP doesn’t copy and paste but re-types what @BlameJamal wrote? This would be more like the photo example above.

Disclaimer:
I did not write the rules.
I am not stating @DTrain2002 interpretation is incorrect.
Just my opinion that using the rule in such a way is beyond strict.

But when someone does this, they note not to use the cropped photo, as it’s low quality.

I just see writing for others as cheating, like how some ask others to write school papers for them. We need to encourage users to put in their own work.

I think it is absolutely fine to offer wording to help someone out and give them permission to use it. What is not allowed is copying someone’s words that you do not have permission to use and presenting them as your own.

A Wayspot nomination isn’t a term paper, a design document, or a sales pitch. We don’t earn money or fame by submitting them — it doesn’t have to be difficult, and there’s no need to bend over backwards to create a masterpiece without any help. As someone who’s not very literate, I appreciate help from others in the room or from AI, and I also appreciate reviewers who don’t expect a nomination to be “sold” to them. Just my two cents :upside_down_face:

Lets all remember to remain respectful.

A strength of this forum is that there are a wide range of people, experience and backgrounds.

It can be very difficult sometimes to see what needs to be fixed and how to fix it. You are convinced you did a good job first time around.

So it is helpful to suggest different angles, crops and adjustments to photos. I have sometimes taken the photo and changed it to illustrate what I mean - its difficult to see otherwise.

Likewise have occasionally written some text to illustrate what I mean about providing detail or making it concise or keeping it focused in stead of stretching it . These are suggestions to ket the the stuck wayfinder see a way out of the rut that they are in.

Whether they pay any attention to it is up to them. Nothing I post is what I would call a final version.

I dont think anyone has ever come back and said - oh here is anther one can you do this one for me…..That might say something about the quality of what I have done ( and not in a good way :squinting_face_with_tongue: ) but I hope it means they have found a way forward for themselves,

Jamal has to me…

The one time it happened, I had to mute the thread, as I refused to write up anything.

They are free to use my words. Keep’em. Chang’em. Whatever.

If I post something. It’s not a term paper or copyright. Please use words and make them your own. It’s not cheating. I’m here to help people get their POI’s approved.

Peace!

My latest nomination was for a VFW. Title was VFW and the post number. Description was the official full name of the post and where it’s located. Supporting info include link to their social media and where it’s near to locate.

Nothing crazy there to sell that, as it was accepted, and I did write everything in the nomination.

I was not trying to say that this is wrong, more that it is the correct thing to do in the same way as “I” see no issue in someone asking for advise and it been given in the way Jamal did.

Yes, but you have egged people on in the past to write for you, and others have said no. You need to learn that not everyone will write for you.

Because I’m going to be the one seen in the wrong, I’m muting this, too.

To be 100% honest. I was looking for help. I don’t profess to have all the answers. I need help from time to time. No one is looking for someone to be wrong. You can mute if you want, I hope you don’t feel attacked. Just trying to help someone with their nomination.

Hopefully you will see this before you mute…

I am not saying that your interpretation of the rule in incorrect, I just believe some rules are black and white, some have a bit of wriggle room.

A post was merged into an existing topic: How can I get my wayspot to be approved?

Some interesting points brought up in the above discussion.

Wayfarer is a community participation activity. No one person is involved all the way through and many people seek out community help before, during, and after the nomination process for feedback and advise. I’ve offered a lot of text write-ups with explicit permission to use my words as they want. I’ve also offered brief wording that I’ve followed up with a request that the user rephrases the text to be appropriate to their candidate, nomination, and potential audience.

But I’d also like to post from the criteria pages:

4. Ineligible text or description

Title and/or description seems copied and pasted from other sources[…]

Source: Rejection Criteria — Wayfarer Help Center

If a reviewer was to do a reverse text search (in the example description provided, I would be searching for the text), they would result in this page (and subsequent debate ). It would then be a verbatim rejection per the criteria for being copy and pasted from another source. Interpretation aside, they would not explicitly be in the wrong for rejecting.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable (perhaps because I’m biased towards promoting community involvement and covering past support provided) to help others with photo editing and text suggestions, but we do need to be mindful of what the community reviewers will see and make sure we remove any chances of rejections.
