I have received an unfair warning for 'Malicious location edit'

I have received an unfair warning for 'Malicious location edit’.

The only reason I tried to edit the location of a gym was because I had spinned it and a research task required to record it (it is a graffiti). But since the location was not correct, I could not record the graffiti properly because it stated that I was far from the location (It is in another street, parallel to where it is now, but around 50m away). So I decided to appeal for a location edit to fix it.

Days later, my edit was rejected, so I decided to appeal, and offer to make a video about it.

Today, I was utterly surprised that not only my appeal was rejected, but I also received a warning for malicious behaviour (!)

I started playing with illusion and excitement, but the last thing I want is to be banned, especially after putting my time and effort in trying to fix things that I consider are not correct.

Now I get it. One of the reviewers must live near the gym I tried to edit, they were mad, and they tried to report me. Ok. from now on, I WILL NEVER EVER try to edit a location, and when a task requires to record the a landmark, I will just record whatever is there…

Thank you, and good luck…

Sorry to hear about this experience. In game you are only allowed to edit 10 meters, anything beyond that should be done through the wayfarer help chat.

So yes that edit was unfortunately misplacing it still by 40 meters. That is also how these edits are judged because your edit still misplaced it.

hope this clarifies it, and you could always share the location for other to correct it.

This is a really common issue, because in game there is a 10 metre limit to location edits, but also because you arent able to provide any kind of supporting information when doing the edit, so reviewers have nothing to base their choice on in some cases ie if the satellite is blurry, no street view available etc

I am always recommending doing location edits with the Wayfarer help chat now. You can ask a niantic staff member to do the move, and can supply additional pictures, links, and explain what youre doing. They do the move, so you haven’t actualy made the edit yourself. That protects your account from these warnings

The other thing I would mention is that you should be aware that editing any stop or gym by 50m might mean it disappears from the game, so please be ready for that result as well :grimacing:

Hi @SimonPokeGo
Welcome to the forum.
I’ve moved your topic to General Discussion because the Wayspot Appeals category is for appealing rejected removal requests or to ask for reinstating removed wayspots.

I’m sorry for your experience.

Thank you for your quick reply. I have no idea about that 10m-rule.
However, editing the location by only 10m would not fix the issue. The pokestop is a graffiti, and if you only change it by 10 metres, when you need to scan it, it is still too far away to do it properly…

The help chat can move it by any amount, so they can fully correct the locatjon for you

Thank you for reply.

The Current Wayspot Location is (43.654524, -7.356777)

My edit is: (43.654387, -7.356659)

which is a parallel street. Let me try to attach a google maps picture in order to clarify it…

Sorry, but I am kind of a newbie here. Where could I find the Help Chat?

Also via Help chat you could appeal to remove the warning record by uploading documents as proof of your edit’s not a malicious one
