Location edit frustration

Welp I’ve just had a bunch of location edits rejected after being “under review by the wayfarer team” despite many being cases where the current pin is completely misplaced and Google clearly showing that. I was expecting to have to appeal some of them because there is no streetview and a tree covering the aerial view but some of them are baffling.

Very frustrating that at 2 appeals per 20 days it’ll be months before I will be afforded an opportunity to provide any evidence in support of some of my edits. It’s incredibly frustrating there is no option to attach evidence when the edit request is put through. I’m going to document a few of them here to relieve the frustration:

Case 1:

POI: Spandrel carving of St Lawrence’s demise

What is it?: A viking era carving on the spandrels above the church door.

Image of POI from Ingress:

Current location is in the grass next to the church

Location proposed:

3D mode from Google maps with circle around the carving:

Case 2:

POI: Anchor Brewery

What is it?: A carving of an anchor commemorating the former site of the brewery that used to be one of the city’s main employers.

Image currently used by the POI:

Current location in the middle of the street:

Location proposed:

3D mode from Google maps with circle around the carving:

Streetview:

Case 3:

POI: The Gates

Current location inside the music shop opposite the alleyway:

My edit (whoops mine is also too far south but far more accurate in the east-west axis):

Then yeah you can see it on the pavement opposite the middle awning of the green restaurant:

So yeah, quite frustrated, not sure how to avoid this and avoid using all my appeals on stuff like this. I find it annoying when things are misplaced and it really feels like I’m being called a liar when I get the rejection emails through.

Also extra frustrating when I just had a new nomination denied for being misplaced despite being similarly verifiably through streetview: Mismatched location appeal in the future - #2 by shritwod

Edit:

Also wondering if this is in for the same treatment

The curse of doing location edits in game with no chance to give any context as you have provided here.

And boy is that brewery photo awful. I also think the title needs changing too. A better photo with a little more around it might help reviewers get the location correct. Photos can still get a quick accept.

That aside you can use the help chat bubble on the wayfarer page to request moves of more than 10m which seems the case for some of these. That way you can at least explain and include photos, links etc.
going down the route may take some of the pressure off of the appeals.

I’ll bare it in mind for the future, sadly only one of the three is over 10m off :frowning:

I’m assuming there’s no hope of some kind NIAngel finding this post and flipping the magic “This woman’s requests were all valid actually” switch?

I don’t measure the distance of the move before I contact help chat, and they have never refused me for the move being too short. They have decided to remove the Wayspot instead of moving it iirc.

Another way to submit location edits is through the Wayspot Removals form linked at the top. I will post that here in case it doesn’t show for you:

It can be used for modifications as well as removals. The options are clunky, but just tell them the issue and they will figure it out. If you say you are not the property owner but get an automated email that asks for your credentials as property owner anyway, do not reply to it.

I don’t appeal rejected location edits because of the issue you pointed out with not being able to attach evidence. For a brief moment, edit appeals were done through help chat, and that was great. I don’t know why they stopped that.

Well, I gave it a go on the first one and received the message

"Hello Explorer,

Thanks for reaching out.

We have taken another look at the reported location. Based on our research, the Wayspot “Spandrel carvings of St Lawrence’s demise” does not require any adjustments at this time.

Regards,"

So I guess its fine that the wayspot isn’t even on the building let alone in the right place…

Like how is this not a required adjustment?..

I’m so tired of this, it’s like niantic don’t want their wayspot map to be accurate.

Wayfarer can be frustrating. You tried. I guess good enough is good enough.

Keep trying on the others. I suspect the view on the first one is that it is on that area of the building and that is good enough. But with specific architectural details you would think they would want it exact.

Wish I hadn’t needed to use an appeal but happy for an eventual win.

Glad to hear it worked out

I am glad the appeal worked!

I would also add to the previous recommendations for the help chat for edits where you want to supply evidence. You can provide lots of pictures and also write to them, which is so helpful!

I feel it also protects me from any accusation of abuse if I am wanting to move things into another cell to be more accurate, since on an edit with no supporting info it might be assumed Im doing it for the wrong reasons when actually the item has moved or was always inaccurate

I did actually try through the help chat but was denied before being given the chance to provide evidence

Interesting, I didnt realise that could happen!

I think I just immediately spammed them with a lot of images and waffling about what I wanted to do with the edit and why and a day or so later it was done.
