I don’t know if this is the right place for general discussions, but about a week ago, a friend of mine and I requested historic buildings certified by the Lombardy Cultural Heritage Authority (you’ll find examples below, but I won’t include all of them since there are about 30). My friend completed most of the buildings with his account, and I completed about 3/4 with mine. However, since we didn’t have the necessary information to provide a detailed description, and only knew the name of the house, we put them on hold as soon as we made the request. This morning, he was researching the specifics of the houses, editing the requests, and publishing them. However, on the sixth house, he noticed an error and wanted to edit it, but realized he couldn’t, so he refreshed the page and it turned out that the request had been rejected by Niantic’s automatic process (I’ll post a photo below, even though it’s in Italian). Since he’s only on the sixth house and still has 18 to go, I wanted to ask if he kept editing the description and then publishing them, and the same thing happened. The strange thing is that this didn’t happen with my account and the 3/4 houses I requested, but the procedure was the same. Due to the lack of information, I put them on hold and published them yesterday, but they weren’t rejected automatically. The problem is that if I publish the other houses and they all get rejected, it’s like I’ve wasted almost 25 requests, and that’s not nice, so I asked for help with this. Now I’ll post the photos.
The first three pairs of images are from my friend. In the second image, he included a photo from the official website of the Lombardy Heritage (Milan, Italy) in the supporting photos, demonstrating that it’s not just any building, but a recognized building. The fourth and fifth pairs of photos are from my account and, as you can see, were published yesterday and today, and haven’t yet been rejected by the automatic system. My friend’s photos didn’t even have time to edit them before they were immediately rejected, and as you can see, they’re all valid. My question is the same as before. Am I going to waste 25 requests, or is there someone on staff who can help us?
Before I ask for an appeal because I know most people will suggest this to me, I want to hear from the Niantic staff. @NianticTintino @NianticAaron
Hello,
I’m unclear what specific help you want from an ambassador.
The Wayfarer Team can engage with you about your submissions but if there are specific issues with your friends account then they are likely to have to post themself.
Can you clarify that all the submissions were on hold?
It is possible to accidentally release the hold - I have done that rather than press edit.
You refer to edit photo. Do you mean the whole nomination as it’s not possible to edit a photo.
It sounds as though you both put your submission on hold initially, in order to provide full information, which is a fairly standard way of working.
You edited then released, and your submissions were not immediately rejected by the ML system
Your friend edited then released, and found a submission was almost immediately rejected by the ML system. This was noticed when they went to correct the submission, soon after releasing it, and found they couldn’t.
Is this what happened?
It does not sound like ML is picking submissions up before release, nor does it actually sound like they are being released accidentally. It simply sounds as though ML has rejected one or more submissions, and that you are worried it will reject all of them.
Hi, thanks for responding promptly. I called the ambassadors because they were probably closer to the Niantic staff than us ordinary users, and so perhaps they could have warned them of this problem (???), but maybe I’m wrong. As for the applications, as @salixsorbus said, I’m afraid this will automatically reject all the others. In any case, there are 25 requests, and to reapply or appeal them, I have to wait a long time, and I wouldn’t want to.
I don’t think there is anything to warn Niantic about. The ML system cannot be tweaked to allow individual submissions through to community review.
How many have been released (in English, the button says “Release Hold”) by you and how many of yours have been rejected by ML?
How many have been released by your friend and how many of theirs have been rejected by ML?
The ML rejects things that seem most likely to not meet criteria. It probably thought these were private homes. Unfortunately your friend will have to appeal over time. It happens to all of us a lot and is unfortunately normal.
17 sono ancora cosi
6 rifiutati da ML
la mia richiesta magari impossibile era quella di ridarli alla community perche sono palazzi storici certificati come avete visto nel post iniziale
Appealing and resubmitting are the only options.
Before doing this, it would be worth trying to establish what is causing the rejections. You appear to have said all of the ones you submitted were released successfully. Is this correct?
It is normal observed behaviour that when the hold is released if roughly 24 hours have passed the Automatic system ( nickname Emily) can instantly reject the submission.
This happened to one of mine recently - I was expecting it because of content and was ready to appeal.
Scriverò in italiano scusate.
Niantic do monitor the discussions, but tend to only step in when needed. It is possible for something to get missed, but if you don’t get a staff comment, it’s best to see this as them not seeing a need for comment. Here, the ML system is not making dreadful mistakes, but ones you don’t like.
Wait to see what happens to the ones you have appealed. Good luck.
