I submitted late last year for a meeting place used in public rental housing. It is used primarily by a homeowner’s association made up of residents; about 3 months later it changed to Under Review (Niantic) status and I subsequently received a notice of rejection.
Curiously, the reason for rejection of the meeting house was a generaic business. So I came up with a hypothesis of one bug. I wondered if all the reasons for rejection in Under Review (Niantic) might be showing up as generic business.
Has anyone else had the strange experience of a submission being rejected by Under Review (Niantic) and marked the same as a generic business?
Its normal for 3-4months submission to be reviewed by niantic team. It seems niantic is pushing old pending submission for acceptance/rejection. I personally experience it too. On some occasion i literally saw it change myself and got acceptance/rejection soon after.
That aside, what was you submitting? I would probably reject that sign based on lack of uniqueness as well.
The sign looks like someone ductape it into the wall so it doesnt seems permanent as well
What most likely happened is that the community did start to review this nomination, but there weren’t enough votes after a few months, so it was then reviewed by staff. I’ve had this happen with some of my submissions, as some of the rural areas I submit in don’t have a large number of reviewers.
We don’t know how staff vote on these submissions that have previous votes from the community, but they may take those community votes into account. So, if there were more rejection votes than approval, this could influence how staff decide in these cases. Again, we don’t know for sure, and staff most likely won’t revealing how this works, but it’s a possibility.
I do have to agree that your supporting photo doesn’t show the sign with the surrounding area, just the surrounding area. You need to take a supporting photo that shows the POI within the surrounding area, so that reviewers can better try to locate it, or believe that it’s at the location you say it’s at.
I also agree that the sign doesn’t appear to be permanent, and just appears to be taped to the wall. It seems as though it could be easily removed at anytime. A photo of the actual meeting room would be better to me in this case than a sign taped to a wall.
Also, this doesn’t seem like a bug, so a mod might move it to another topic, such as Nomination Support.
Hi @DTrain2002
Thanks for your thoughts and moderation suggestion
The OP asked if there’s recently a bug that every rejection reason is “generic business”.
The question wasn’t answered yet. So I let the decision, bug or not, at niantics side.
(you have to zoom on the grey/black huge stone figure on the supporting photo - there’s the sign attached)
I am confused by the screenshot which doesn’t say “Generic business” since the question is about the “Generic business” rejection being misused to mean “generic” for Niantic review rejections. This has been happening for a long time:
I think in another thread we believe that this is being posted for generic business as they may be based on the old star rating system, which did ask if something was historical or culturally significant. Here’s where we were discussing it last week:
Just want to add this one. It looks like reviewers may have chosen Obstructs emergency services (at a fire station), but when staff pulled it after months for review, the reason is not unique or or historical significance.
I’m thinking that this is the reason for anything that is rejected under Appropriate, not just generic business.
Hi @CrownFeather
I’ve moved your topic to General Discussion since there’s proof of other rejection reasons given as niantic review result.
I hope you feel ok with that.
OH! I have the rejections plus tool so it looks a little different, but now the nomination that previously showed “Generic business” and “Other rejection critieria” reads like this:
Maybe we should start a collection
Yeah, agree that we need more evidence.
Yes, I have no objection to moving the topic. I too think it is necessary to collect and examine other people’s cases as well.
Please see thread for screenshots of full rejection reason.
Their friend received a warning for mismatched location, but that’s not the rejection reason listed on the screenshots of the nominations. In short, the rejection reason is offensive photo or text for both.
Inaccurate location falls under Accuracy, as does offensive photo/text, yet there was nothing offensive with the parts of the nominations that were provided.
