I’m not used to submitting indoor art pieces so I’d like some help improving this for resubmission and for future submissions of similar things.
Title: Prismatic Whale
Description: Art piece painted and provided by United Way non-profit group located inside the entryway of Fremont Family Resource Center. Accessible during daytime operating hours.
Supplemental Info: This beautiful art piece was made by the United Way non-profit group and donated to the Fremont Family Resource Center. It is hung up inside the entryway and is available to the general public to see and access. No appointments are needed to access the FRC buildings.
The main issue you’re going to be fighting is “temporary.” When a piece of art is hung on the wall, many think it will be easy to move, so it is not permanent. If there is a tag on the wall listing the name and artist, that can be used as proof that it has been specially placed here and probably won’t be moved. Also, this kinda looks like it’s something you could buy at Target. That doesn’t help. Having the title and artist would prove it is original art.
Edited to add that at least one person tagged it as a sensitive location because its a charity. I see the logic of not wanting to entice groups of playwrs into this lobby if this were to become a gym in PGO.
If you submit this again, turn your phone sideways to take the photo so you don’t cut off the art. Experiment with different zoom levels.
I agree with @seaprincesshnb about the temporary/distinct rejection. Is this piece just decoration, or is it a destination? I used to know the artist in residence at SAS (a software company) whose job was purchasing, creating, and placing works like this. Every hallway there has a piece every few feet, and most are regularly rotated.
This is useful info, thank you for the insight! But this isn’t a charity, it is a government center. The center has 2 buildings, 4 entrances in each and is full of various art pieces, most of which are donated.
Agreed on the landscape, I’ll remember that tip for different pieces. Most of these art pieces at the center are donated and hung throughout! Some have artist tags, some don’t
Fair enough, I’ll take that into consideration for the next one. A follow up question would be: what should I do if the tags/context is farther out of frame in the photo. Should all of that go into the description and supporting info? Also should the supporting photo just focus on accessibility?
Fremont Family Resource Center ---- Possibly reviewers are marking this as a sensitive location because of the name. It suggests a place for under privileged to receive help.
Being a government building does not solve that perception. I suggest you have a description of the center that explains its purpose.
As to wall mural in waiting room – could be fine as long as its not sensitive, not adult location etc. Quoting the creator and some history makes it all the better.
This will greatly depend on the situation irl. I don’t normally like collage supporting photos, but this might be a case where I would do one. I could not find the information to link to this online, so I used a collage to both show the position of the art in the space and the documentation of the importance of the piece.
I agree completely that this would be a sensitive location. This is a setting where families come who need help with social services and the like. I would definitely reject it as a sensitive location.
