Invalid Wayspot Appeal: Desert Experimental Range

  • Wayspot Title: Desert Experimental Range
  • Location (lat/lon): 38.594685,-113.748872
  • City: Milford, UT
  • Country: United States
  • Additional Information (if any): Desert Experimental Range is a United States Forest Service research station in the Utah desert. It has been accessed by multiple members of both Ingress factions over the course of many years. This location has restricted access, but any member of the public making the appropriate arrangements can visit. This was likely reported as “inaccessible” or “closed to the public”, but I’ve never had an issue arranging access during its operating months. More information from USFS: Desert Experimental Range | US Forest Service Research and Development

Because this is a historic site with information signs for the public (see nearby live POIs), this should remain in the POI network as a unique destination for the adventurous player.

The coordinates provided appear to be on a traffic median, without any visibly marked crossing points to it. So it may have been removed for unsafe pedestrian access, as whilst the traffic there may be minimal, it does still appear to be a location that would typically be deemed unsafe. Up to date imagery of the location may be useful if you can get it.

The “road” is a driveway behind the gate. You can park at the edge without any issue and walk into the middle of the loop without obstruction.

Thanks for the appeal, @elforesto. We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire the Wayspot.
