Is Niantic Appeal reviewers ok?

I created submission for one of the monuments/welcoming sign leading to my citys airport and the nearby residential area. It got rejected on the premesis that its not safe and doesn’t have direct access via bridge or crosswalk to it. The submission is just 10 meters away from sidewalk next to big parking. Theres no crosswalk leading to the place where the welcoming sign is located. The sign itself is at a roundabout. Theres literally road made in the middle of the roundabout that sadly is not connected by crosswalks but it is still used everyday by many. Because of that I managed to make the pictures for the submission. I posted it and it got rejected. Waited 20 days for appeal option. I used that appeal option when it got available and then got a message that the appeal is rejected because theres no way people can directly get to the stop because that counts as going to the spot. I just wanted to know if thats supposed to be normal for people to disregard anything posted. By that logic the stops at the airport should be removed as well due to the airport being restricted to passengers only and not random civilians.

Hey welcome to the community.

  1. Can you show full image of your submission aloneside with supporting photo, without context we sadly can’t help you.

That’s kinda the problem. Unless you show full submission, it is probably a correct rejection.

The requirement for pedestrian access means that it has to be possible to walk right up to the precise wayspot location. 80m away, 20m away, 10m is no good. This is non-negotiable.

Not every wayspot has to be accessible to every person. This is why you can get wayspots in airports, in theme parks, in business parks and on military ground.

You can walk up to it. You just have to cross the road. And I fully agree with you. Not every wayspot has to be accessible to every person such as the case with this one.

There are no crosswalks leading to this area. There are crosswalks for the adjacent roads, indicating that they are needed here. This is a correct rejection.

Wait a minute, what is this sign?

Is there a pedestrian pathway through the roundabout?

the same sign is on the other side, too.

i may have been wrong in my first assessment about lack of crosswalks if people are encouraged to cross here

That sign means no pedestrians:

It’s sign B12 in the prohibitory signs section.

Thank you!! Was definitely right about the lack of crosswalks then!

I like how in 2012 there was concrete path, even map of Burgas on that path and no crosswalks at all and after it got removed people are still using it to this day even having someone being recorded using it in 2022. Nice one. Thanks for the information. I finally lost hope.

Unfortunately, although people are clearly still using that path across the middle of the roundabout, there are signs blatantly saying no pedestrians are allowed. These don’t stop people from walking there, although they do mean that anyone doing so and getting hurt can’t really pass on the blame, but they definitely mean that this is not pedestrian access and fails the Safety check for getting a wayspot approved.

Anything on a roundabout is going to be double-checked for safe pedestrian access, since the interiors of most roundabouts are not intended for pedestrians. I have a old toll bar (gate across the middle of the road where a fare was paid to pass, hundreds of years ago) which would be very eligible, except for being on a roundabout. Sure, I could get across the road and touch it (might have to run) but that is simply not good enough for access to a wayspot.

We have a strange one locally.

It’s an elongated roundabout.
It has a footpath around the edge (on the actual roundabout) and 1 across the middle.
It’s busy enough that all exits / entrances have crossing.
No crossings to the middle.
People do use it but always seems to have to go at some pace to get across.
No signs stating you shouldn’t.

There is a plaque on it, don’t know what it’s about.

Decided not to check whether it is suitable as if I don’t get run over I don’t want to encourage anybody else to…

That is quite impressive. The random path across the middle leads to… nowhere on either side that anyone would be happier to cross at than anywhere else. That plaque went up since September 2024 based on the streetview images

Used to work at one of the shops (bottom left) and would take money over to the Bank (above where it says Brecklands). I was only in my 20s at the time so quicker on my feet but still preferred to walk round unless it was really quiet.

In regards to plaque, checked Pogo Map and the cell is occupied by the “Stagg Inn” anyway.
