Hi All!
I’ve recently nominated a waystop for a memorial tree with a plaque near it, it is commemorating the Queens silver jubilee. The reason it was rejected was there “was no pavement up to the way spot” There in fact is a pavement just down the road which you could walk up and then cross the road onto the grass, but I don’t understand how that is a problem to be honest. There is also a grass verge you could walk along if you wanted to cross later down the road. I have attached images although the google maps image was from 2009 so apologies, its a very rural area lol.
Another question, I’ve had another stop accepted and was just wondering what time the daily sync roughly happens as i could not find a definitive answer.
Thanks for the Help!!
Sorry!!! wrong stop nomination although is in the same area, this is it…
The rejection reasons shown do not talk about pedestrian access at all and both are understandable. Neither is this a silver jubilee bench.
The photo is low quality - the one you have provided here is definitely low quality so the one for the submission may be also.
Not permanent or distinct - this is the rejection when reviewers thumbs down to “Permanent and Distinct”, which is what we are recommended to do when something is Appropriate, Safe and Accurate, but not eligible as it doesn’t meet criteria.
This doesn’t meet criteria. It doesn’t commemorate the silver jubilee, but a local person of no significance beyond their friends and family.
Yes it was the wrong image ive replyed with the actual one, but to say the local person has no significance beyond their friends and family is kind of crazy. Who are you to know how this person affected the local area? Do you live there? Wild
It is down to the submitter to show evidence? Most reviewed are carried out be people that will have not visited the actual place…
Yeah fair enough. Although seems a bit backhanded to say weird stuff like “but a local person of no significance beyond their friends and family.” is just unnecessary. Could’ve just said what you have. Thanks for the input I appreciate it
OK, that image makes more sense for your narrative here (I’m sticking with my comments above for the original image though).
That seems harsh, rejecting for pedestrian access. What was your narratives and supporting photo?
Pedestrian access does need to be to the exact spot of the POI. Not nearby, not on the other side of the road, but at 0 meters away. If your evidence for pedestrian access is that you can /nearly/ get to it, this will immediately put people off.
Pavements are not mandatory for rural roads and are not mandatory for pedestrian access to be OK.
Yeah i read about that, but i was more trying to ask why that is a thing when people with anything about them could cross a small 4ft wide road! I guess maybe I should have shown an image of the access also? Anyways, this is what i put as the supporting statements.
The location of this nomination appears to be on what is effectively a traffic island in the middle of a road junction. Typically for things in the middle of roundabouts/traffic islands/medians, Niantic will look for a marked crossing point to the centre. There is no marked crossing point (or footpaths in general) at this location, so I can understand the rejection on safety grounds.
If it was on the grass verge next to the building instead, that might’ve been viewed as safe enough (given that it’s a rural area with no footpaths), but that doesn’t change the rules regarding things in the middle of roundabouts or traffic islands.
Assuming it exists on Google streetview, that seems like a legitimate wayspot to me. I think you were unlucky and should resubmit. Address the pedestrian access issue in the supporting information, e.g., “this is a rural area where people walk along the quiet country lanes” (not perfect but hopefully you get the idea), but don’t be confrontational.
Don’t complain it was rejected before, don’t sound like you are complaining about that because you’ll be getting different reviewers. When a submitter is basically saying “look, stop rejecting my wayspot because it’s perfect”, it’s really off-putting.
Yep, I’ve only recently started reviewing and completely agree with you. Off topic - I was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly nominations went through the voting process. I thought that it would only be pushed to reviewers in the local-ish area, but that definitely can’t have been the case as it’s gone through as quick as it has.
Anyways
Thanks for your help!
If in the UK, you get reviews from roughly 1/3 of the UK. It’s based on the cells, but I forget which level. From a global perspective, that’s local-ish.
Nominations are going through quickly for the UK at the moment. I think the challenge just before Niantic and Niantic Spatial split, to clear down the backlog, was successful at preventing the backlog from creeping back up.
I’ve resubmitted based on your advice, Thanks
This photo may not help. You are showing a pavement that finishes with people then having to walk around the outside of the car. Then saying that pavements don’t matter.
I would simply use a reasonably close-up photo like the one that is the first image in this thread, then stand back and take another, with the POI in the frame, showing the surroundings.
