Ist it true that your Pokemon Go Account can be banned for reviewing in wayfarer?

I was told that reviewing in wayfarer, even If you do It according to guidelines, can cause you to get banned in wayfarer and the Game. Ist this correct?

Firstly, welcome to the community.

To answer your question, just reviewing on its own won’t get you banned. If you follow the guidelines you should be ok. There are mechanisms put in place if it appears, as an example, you are part of a ring syndicate where you are collectively approving or rejecting nominations, regardless of whether it’s with good intent, it could lead you to be warned.

If you inadvertantly make the wrong decision on the odd nomination here and there, you are unlikely to get banned. You are more likely to get warned just on Wayfarer for how you review. If you submit stuff that are in clear violation of the rules, there is a higher chance that you could get banned across all the games and also Wayfarer.

I don’t have enough current knowledge to tell you for certain that you will get banned in any of the games (in addition to Wayfarer) for the purpose of how you review.

If you are reviewing where you approving or rejecting everything, even when some are not eligible, some measures can be taken. I don’t know off hand if it includes banning you from playing any of the games.

Abusive actions can lead to suspensions and bans. Regular reviewing will not lead to bans. Abusive reviewing can do - being part of a review circle, accepting everything without question, denying everything without question, vexatious reporting. Suspensions and bans apply across all games.

Familiarise yourself with the wayfarer criteria and vote according to those guidelines and you will have no issues. The same goes for submitting.

Generally when people talk about being banned “for no reason”, they leave out parts of the story about what they did

Hello and Welcome @Unlucky7247

Given some of the scare stories on social media it’s an understandable question.
You are already getting some good advice.
If you review according to guidelines there is no issue at all and you can work towards the in game medal.
If you have any questions about how to review - there are quite a few judgement calls - you are more than welcome to ask here. It’s a very supportive community.

Do have a good read at some of the posts where people are discussing those judgements and look at the criteria clarifications

There’s generally very little risk of getting banned.

And unless you’re involved in some kind of coordinated effort to manipulate reviews, the chances of being banned specifically for your reviews are extremely low.

That said, even if you believe your nominations or edits were made in good faith, your risk of being banned goes up if you do things like:

・Trying to move a PokéStop for arbitrary reasons

・Submitting a nomination using someone else’s photo
(If you’re a Google Local Guide and your photo was accepted there first, reviewers might misunderstand and report you. In that case, you should contact Wayfarer to clear things up.)

・Including a Pokémon plush toy in your submission photo

I’ve also seen cases where people submit incorrect nominations or edits simply due to carelessness or honest mistakes, and others report them immediately—and that can still lead to a ban.

If that happens, your appeal will almost certainly be denied.

If you’re planning to participate in the June PoGo Fest, it’s worth keeping these risks in mind and proceeding carefully.

If it were me, I wouldn’t touch anything until after the Fest is over.

A better option is if you plan on posting photos elsewhere take extras so you are able to post some exclusively to Wayfarer.

Or anything else that could suggest you are identifying your nominations
 “Look for the ones with
 in the photo”.

Do not mention Pokemon Go at all, Remember that you nomination could be used in other games.

My Suggestion is “Check, Check and Check Again”.

I’d say unless you are reviewing in bad faith or to purposefully skew results and abuse the system, you should be fine. My number one advice is to familiarize yourself with the rules!

Speaking from experience, I have been given a warning on wayfarer that did show up in my Pokemon go account. However that was not from solely reviewing, but rather submitting if you choose to do that. I did not think using a third party photo, especially if given permission from the artist, would be a huge deal; but after doing my research to understand copyright and how that could get the app into big trouble, I realized it’s more than “just a photo.” Their warning allowed me to closely scrutinize my knowledge and learn. If it’s an honest mistake, you will get warning, and they have a ladder system.

Keep in mind they can skip rungs on the ladder if they determine it is intentional and high scale abuse. There is also a forgiveness period for offenses, and the capability to appeal if you feel it was unfair.
