There were mentions of the new categories in the new forum “sneak peaks”, but it took me a minute to find them because that’s apparently not the default display for the landing page. It instead shows a cluttered mess of “latest” and even after changing this option, it reverts itself back when navigating away and back.
This is really unintuitive and overwhelming.
I’d suggest defaulting to the categories view, instead.
When users are more familiar and up-to-date with the forum content, they could then choose to display theirs by latest instead to quickly catch up with the latest happenings
You could choose an standard lading page in your settings
Then it would not be changed back every time
Where? I’ve already played around in profile preferences and can’t find that option. Couldn’t see anywhere else for forum settings
It doesn’t really help new users who will struggle most with this default display, though
I agree with this suggestion. I do the same thing, I like to open up the categories rather than seeing latest and tags by default. Will have to find out what options we have.
Find it at “interface”
NVM, found it
Regardless, my suggestion still stands.
New users need an uncluttered and intuitive entry into the forum, which this default display does not provide.
With the categories almost rendered moot by this display being defaulted, I can’t help but think it’s an unintentional setting (I’ve never seen this used as the default on any large public forum because it just looks like a rubbish dump of random posts)
Where do you find that screen?
Profile → preferences → interface
Ah, if on mobile there is some side scrolling to do… Took a while to find it.

It took me a minute to realise this too
