Let me know what you guys think

I am in Japan and when I am reviewing wayfarers, I see a lot of bulletin boards. There is nothing unique or distinctive about them, but they are spot on just because they are BBS’s. If NIANTIC is the approval criteria, does that mean anything goes? If it meets the criteria, can I approve it?

We saw a lot of these during the Wayfarer challenge. To me, an information board can be a great place for exploration because it informs you. If the location was pedestrian safe, I accepted them.

Would you approve of a blank information board?

I have submitted and approved blank boards before. People go there to check for events, whether or not anything is posted. It still gives them the information that there aren’t any posted events even blank. imo, of course.

There are so many bulletin boards in Japan, sometimes 10 meters away.
When I saw you post here that a very nice application was denied outside of Japan, I wondered if it is safe to approve it just because it is a bulletin board.
It is one opinion, but it is helpful. Thanks.

not exactly like the ones in Japan, i realize

I am pretty sure I said this in another thread somewhere, but my thinking is that a blank bulletin/information board is like an unoccupied community center. It isn’t ineligible simply because no one is currently using it for it’s stated purpose. It might be ineligible for another reason, but the fact that there wasn’t anything posted on the day a photo was taken shouldn’t be one.

I’ve also submitted and had approved (and voted to approve) city-owned information boards because I think they serve the purpose of informing the community of important upcoming events, such as civic meetings, performances and museum exhibits, social programs, educational opportunities, and other services provided or sponsored by the local and regional government.

And boards related to smaller entities like neighborhoods or civic organizations, could be eligible too. If the submitter can make the case for it and it’s safely accessible, it’s certainly worth giving it a try.

Old, dilapidated bulletin board (nothing posted)
Applicant’s description (bulletin board is a niantic’s eligibility criteria) or (town bulletin board).

Is it safe to approve in such a case?

It would be helpful to see the full nomination. “old, dilapidated” can be very subjective. Sometimes object are like this in appearance, but still functional and expected to function. If there’s evidence that its no longer functional, then I don’t think it meets criteria since it no longer meets the purpose that makes it meet criteria.

The title and description are almost the same: “Town Name Bulletin Board.”
The additional description is

●We have applied in accordance with Niantic’s decree that an independent outdoor community bulletin board that provides information for local residents is of equal value to the Free Little Library and is best suited as a Wayspot.

●This is the town’s bulletin board.

●Sources of information for local residents

It is true that old etc. depends on personal values.
I am not trying to denigrate the board.
I mostly approve of them.
I’m just worried that I’m not making the right decision to approve it just because it’s a message board, when a great spot is denied by this post.
