About 2 weeks ago now, i submitted a nomination for a new pokestop for a neighborhood sign in an area near me. I’ve submitted more than 10 POIs before and have had 4 accepted, but the rejected ones had never given me ban warnings. 3 of the 4 that were accepted were of neighborhood signs, so I saw no reason for this one not to work and submitted an appeal when it was rejected. The next day however, i received a ban warning in game and have been perplexed ever since. The spot was stated to be “a malicious image,” and i’ll send it here to see if anyone agrees. Thanks for your help.
Hello @cherrivederci
Since you mentioned the image, did you take the pictures yourself?
It’s part of the rejection reasons not to use Third Party Photos (3PP). So if these or some of your others were taken from a website or Google maps (or similar) you can get a warning or greater for doing this.
The first image quite clearly shows a Google Maps watermark on it. You must use images you have taken yourself.
Additionally, signs like these are generally seen as ineligible despite your own personal experiences with them. Remember that a nomination needs to be a great place to socialise, a great place to exercise, or a great place to explore. These signs do not fall into the first two categories (the sign isn’t specifically designed as a meet up spot, and it’s not a piece of exercise equipment or a location that you would be intended to exercise at), and the signs that do meet the explore criteria tend to not be plain signs like this and instead have something uniquely artistic about them, or they have some sort of iconic status like the signs for Hollywood and Vegas.
oh my thank you so much i took the second one myself but since the flag was covering the name of the place i couldn’t get a good shot, so i used google maps to get a clearer one. Thank you so much i thought it might be that but i didn’t see it say that explicitly anywhere
Yeah I totally get wanting to have a clear photo of the object. But it’s still gotta be your own!
I’m glad you came here to ask. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with.
I know you’ve already solved the problem and you’ve made it understood that you should take your own pictures, but the bump in the image on the bottom left of the second image was specific to Google Street View, so I looked into it. Next time, please be honest with us.
Anyway moving forward, you can appeal, admit if you are taking 3rd party image and reflect on it. Perhaps staff can retract the 1st strike warning
Another way is just leave it, after one year, the strike will be gone.
