Neighborhood Signs

The only humans on the planet who would argue that neighborhood signs could be used for exercise, socialize, or explore are Wayfinders who want “more pokestops.” No regular person would think these are used for those things.

I do agree,

Just that similar objects in the UK are accepted (had 1 accepted myself). I have already stated the probable reasons why.

i even posted some slightly sarcastic examples (Dog Poo Bin: Place to socialise with other dog owners)

Just wondering if a re-write of some of the criteria could make more nominations an easy Reject and impossible to appeal.

Please read my lengthy post written back in January. No one has brought forth any new and meaningful points in favor of these signs since and it’s frustrating that we have to continue this debate just because people want spinners near their homes. Sorry, wayspots still have to meet criteria and these signs don’t.

Unique Art

An address sign of what looks to be a hardware store can be considered wayspotable and is separate from the hardware store. Would anyone consider a hardware store a worthy wayspot?

There is a distinct separation of a sign of a thing and the thing itself.

Are they permanent?
Yes they are usually affixed to the ground

Are they distinct?
Yes they are usually placed in positions of prominence so outsiders can clearly see them and see where they are

Are they unique?
Yes, are they super wacky unique? No, but I have to assume the logical step that builders would make them unique enough to the surrounding areas that locals or passersby won’t mix up the neighborhood they’re in.

So if an address sign can be considered Unique Art (while under the exploration category) and is separate from what that sign represents then I see no reason why neighborhood signs can’t be submitted or accepted.

show me one that’s actually unique art cause the hundreds I’ve reviewed were not

Hi all who is with reading
Some of the recent flags on this thread have given a suspect impression on who can read and correspond to what. So I wanted to add a brief information about flags:

Flags are a moderational tool to maintain the forum. Every flag is readable for the moderation group so we can act on time if necessary. You can see if you click f.e. on my profile to which groups I’m attached. If you click on “moderator” the group opens and you can see who’s member of it.

But to be absolutly clear: personal messages set up by staff or Ambassadors are personal and not open to the moderator group!

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your thoughts. It was a wonderful read.

Based on the course this discussion has taken, I’ll be closing it from further engagements.

Thanks,

Just to clarify a few points since you specifically asked about whether the hardware shop would be eligible.
In the example of the model of a giant hammer the model could be acceptable. I would consider it and the business as one. In this case hammer could represent this place because it has artistic value even though the hardware shop on its own would not be eligible.
We get a wayspot here when we might not have done because the model can get over the qualifying line.
If the hammer was submitted and the place was called Joiner’s Cafe ( :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::thinking:) then it would be visually representing the cafe in the same way we often focus a picture on a logo and I would expect it to have title that reflected the cafe as the important element.
So here the business qualifies and that is the wayspot but it can be illustrated by the hammer. So a wayspot.

I will contribute my thoughts around the application of criteria in one of the other topics linked to this .
