wait no, post something
Even the older ones?
In the past, well-known chain stores were a disapproval criterion, but now they are an approval criterion, so there is no problem.
According to an article in the Wayfarer AMA (November 2020), the “general business” criterion for “reasons of unsuitability” was revised to include more possibilities for businesses (other than general businesses that are not locally based, such as chains and franchisees), so in January 2021, the “general business” criterion was removed. There is no problem because the “general businesses” section was removed from the “reasons why it is not appropriate” section.
Therefore, chain stores and signs are an approved criterion.
However, adult-oriented stores such as liquor stores, adult entertainment establishments, and love hotels (and no signage) are subject to the disapproval criteria.
Do a survey on the Wayfarer Discord Group then tell me what they think.
we’re busy discussing Harry Potter: Wizards Unite at the moment sorry. Oh and the niantic friends list i didn’t know existed. Why can’t i add all my smurf nemesises to my friends list?
Thanks, they all look similar. Do you know when they are dated from?
What about these ones?

Also does anyone have NYT subscription and can read this article for me, please.
What about them? They are all over the city. Yes, they look a bit ornate, but how many of them do you need in the game?
I could understand if they were painted in some interesting way. But they are all identical red columns on literally every other intersection in every direction. Just open Google streetview…
I’d rather hear from the people who live in the city that’s why I asked.
You should see some areas of the UK if you think lots of red columns shouldn’t be waypoints
I am from NYC so you are hearing from such a person🙂
When I think of New York it probably goes
Statue Of Liberty
Brooklyn Bridge
Yellow taxis
The typical New Yorker like this
Then Fire Hydrants and those cool police/fire boxes.
Thank you
I think this is more of an accurate illustration of how iconic they are.
You are wrong.
It is not “approval.”
It is “ possibly approved.”
The appropriate response is to review that “possibility” because you should not reject it immediately.
It is not “approve.”
How does it distinguish itself from neighboring objects?
Just a mere number?
If so, then it’s not unique.
It is similar to the mere studs on the sidewalks that are a problem in Australia and other countries, or the billboards lined up at intervals of about 100 meters, street by street, in Japan.
Also, considering that these are used for emergency services in NYC, I think they are totally inappropriate and should be removed.
But now the Wayfarer team rejects it as “ineligible” but not “deleted”.
Perhaps this time again, they will not be removed unless the head of the NYC Police Department or Fire Department calls the Niantic executives in person and gets angry. (I am guessing that something same to this happened in Japan last year, and most of them were removed)
Well, I say one irony is that the Wayfarer team may be “right” in refusing to remove them, even if it is an unqualified response.
After all, it is most correct to have all AR scans, including background and ineligible ones, in our database, and it is most correct to have all ineligible ones in our own database.
For example, suppose you have an application that finds and reports “broken manholes.
In that case, it would be correct to have images and location information for all manholes, including mass-produced ones.
But in the game we are currently playing they are ineligible and cause our game to be boring.
Nothing would make me happy if I received these trashy gifts.
But if you change your perspective, they become the right things.
The biggest problem with the Wayfarer team is that these ineligible wayspots appear on the game because they are unable to sort out and understand that point.
I would like to see them make that distinction.
They don’t have any unique identifiers. Some people submit them named after the street intersections, some name them after random graffiti scribbled on them, some do just generic “antique FDNY callbox” or “old fashion callbox” or some other unimaginative variation of that.
They are not unique.
In some cities (I think Washington DC is one such) they allow artists to decorate decommissioned callboxes and paint them or do something inside. But not in NYC. They are just red pillars on every other intersection.
Do they not have a numbering system related to where they are located?
The early ones had a bell system which would correspond to the number and it’s location so they knew which box was reporting
4-1-2
ding-ding-ding-ding / ding / ding-ding
Obviously at some point they stopped using that. Do you know when that was? 1950’s?
Which ones do you not like it or do you think they are all disgusting?
Don’t you have footpaths to argue about?
No idea. Nothing is marked on them.
I never said they are disgusting. Read my previous posts again if you don’t understand what my issue is.
