Nomination rejected by Niantic for strange reasons

Dear @NianticAaron,

I received the rejected of this nomination:

This mural is dedicated to Angelo De Fiore, and it was inaugurated on February 27, 2024.
The mural depicts a child offering a flower to a police officer, symbolizing gratitude and the protection provided by law enforcement.

Can you give me more feedback about this, please?
Thanks

Did you take the picture yourself? Have you ever upload that picture elsewhere ? U dont need to tag niantic, I assume its rejected by community not niantic since it have rejection reason. Sometimes how community review works is that you need to spoon feed them all the necesary information. U may know all these fact, but reviewer dont. Is it possible to share all the supporting information and description? If i read using google lens there are more to that story. But personally i dont think its harrassment. You can try resubmitting or appeal

Dear @TjoeMi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Of course that I took the photo myself.
The nomination was in “Under Review (Niantic)” (with hot-air ballon icon), and into body of mail there is the sentence “our team” instead of “wayfarer community”.
For this reason, I am asking more feedback about this result.

Thanks

The reason the question was asked is that appears to be the rejection reason that is shown when reviewers choose 3rd party photo. I searched on your photos and got similar but not exact matches. I didn’t know the exact location to see if these same photos are on Google Maps. If you have added them there, that can trigger a third party photo rejection.

If these are your photos and not available elsewhere, you could appeal the rejection. You get two appeals, each on a 20 day timer before you can use it again. If you would rather resubmit, try taking new photos from different angles.

I don’t see any problem with the text of the description. Could anything in your supporting text be an issue?

Nothing of special or particular, I write the Google Maps link to highlight that the images are not updated but it recognizes the position

that link isn’t working when i try to use google lens to copy it. can you paste it here separately?

Ok, no problem.

That looks fine. I would normally link to proof it exists here if I were doing the nomination, then just mention that the buildings can be confirmed on Street View, since they can easily access that.

When I use Google Lens to look for this mural, it is showing me very similar ones to the ones you used:

My guess is that these looked like the same photo to reviewers.

Be aware that this is just how the rejection reason reads. This is not a strike on your account from Niantic. You would have had an email explaining if Niantic thought you had committed abuse.

You can confirm in the email you received about the rejection if it was a decision by “the community” or by “our team.”

I didn’t use photos on Internet…
The nomination has my photos

What I mean is that reviewers may have mistaken your photos for photos on the internet since the angle is the same. I would only encourage you to appeal if I were sure they were your photos. And if you don’t have an appeal available right now, you should try taking new photos from a different angle if you want to resubmit. You can still appeal later if a new submission is also rejected.

@NianticAaron
Do you have feedback for me about this topic?

The location of the Wayspot submission is misplaced by almost 100 meters. This is considered abusive.

I’m sorry but I wasn’t aware that the position was wrong.

In many of my nominations, like this one, I insert the Google Maps link to verify the position of the application.

For me it is strange to start from “the text or photo contains abuse, ridicule, or harassment of a specific person group” and go “the location is wrong, it is an abuse”.
Can you explain me this scenario, please?

The reasons given by the System do not always match the most important rejection reason.

So it beeing misplaced might have been a contributing factor for the wayspot beeing rejected.

The one thing is something, the Systems gives out to reviewers based on voting behaviour from the community, the other is what Niantic Staff did see and would see as the main reason for a rejection, or even abuse of the System.

We can’t see into the minds of reviewers, but if I received a nomination to review which had a link to a gps location showing the point of interest in a different place than the nomination was pinned, i might select “abuse” as well. It seems more intentional if you linked the correct location in the text box, but pinned at an incorrect one.

I was curious to understand what the indicated reason for refusal meant.

I didn’t realize the position was wrong.
I will send again the nomination with more attention to the position.

No problem.
Thanks for your feedback

The funny part is that if I had been accepted into the wrong position I would have been the first to ask for a correction.

It is not a problem, I sent again the nomination with more attention on the nomination position.

Thanks for your feedback.
I will try to follow your suggestion (to shoot the photo by different side of murales)
