Nomination Rejected - Community Dog Park

Hello~

I live in an ungated neighborhood and I’ve been trying to nominate our dog park (which is not in the same cell as the only other spot in the community. I’m pretty sure there are no other wayspots from other games either). It’s a small dog park but it’s a dog park nonetheless. It shows up on Google maps too so it’s legit!(!!) I’ve seen plenty of other neighborhood dog parks as pokestops so I’m at a loss of what I’m doing wrong.

I tried twice last year-- the first time I know my photo wasn’t the best (included the drinking fountain and garbage can at front center), my second time was bad since my dog appeared in the photo. It’s been sometime since so I just tried it again, but it was rejected in less than 24 hours? (1st and 3rd attempts both say "Wayfarer criteria)

To add-- it’s a dog park! It has the double gated doors. There are two benches, a water fountain (at person and dog height), a garbage can, a poop bag dispenser. Unfortunately there’s no sign though, only one of those COVID precautionary gathering reminder signs…

What am I doing wrong? Any pointers would be great! Thank you wayfinding experts ~

(Previous descriptions:
1st attempt: A small dog park for dogs and their owners to gather together and play safely. Safe and equipped with water fountains of various sizes, benches and waste bags.

2nd attempt: Small dog park for the community. A great place to gather with dogs and equipped with resources to help keep dogs safe and clean)

Hey & welcome,

It would be easier to get included if you could submit a pic of the signage.

Best wishes & good luck with your games.

I had a look. If there is no sign then it will be an uphill struggle. Is it possible to contact the authority responsible to ensure one is put up?
Is there a website that lists this as a place they are responsible for as a dog park?
Other than that I would suggest that the supporting photo is from outside the park and it shows the gated entrance. You can see the fencing on streetview but I think that sort of photo may convey it as a secure space more.
Perhaps your main photo should be looking back towards the gate and try to get some of those items you mention in the picture.

Hii! Thanks for such cool suggestions :0!
I thought that the fact that it exists on Google should be convincing enough… but alas, seems like signage is the most important :scream:! I should probably figure out how to contact our HOA  (After all, what are my fees going towards!?)

In my first nomination that was also rejected, I did take a photo of the outside for the supplemental info part (attached). But I haven’t thought of taking the main photo from the bench side towards the gate… Let me try :face_holding_back_tears:

(I’ve never appealed a decision before… Sorry if this part is written somewhere and I’m being a bad wayfarer nominator… In what cases should I appeal versus resubmitting the same spot? Because my most recent submission of this dog park happened so fast, it seems like it was rejected by the bot (??)(it didn’t even go into queue before being voted on).

It not that obvious what is the best way forward in many cases. But you have done the right thing by seeking advice. It’s a key function of this forum. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
If you are paying fees, then definitely get onto them. I’m no fan of signfarer but sometimes it’s just what you need to do.
I like that picture of the gate area…….what does that sign say🤔 can we see it please.
It is worth trying to take photos from different angles. Making a feature of a dog poop station is not going to be a winner🙃, but I think it needs more than just the grass.

This is up to you. You get 2 appeals, each on a 20 day counter before you can use it again, so you need to prioritize what you are going to appeal.

I usually try a few times before I use an appeal. But if the photo is not getting past the ML (machine learning ai) rejection at about 24 hours after submission by “our team” for “Wayfarer criteria”, and I am certain there is no way to take a photo that makes it clearer what I am trying to submit is eligible, then I will appeal and explain.

fyi, I have had signless dog parks accepted when focused on that distinctive double gate.

Oh, I just got this to review with a focus on the distinctive double gate instead of a sign.

Woah okay cool! I also checked the appeal options and I see it doesn’t give any options other than ‘explain yourself!!’ :joy: so I can just resubmit then.

Thank you for your examples! In that case it looks like the photo I submitted as the supplemental info/surrounding area photo would be better as a main photo… Then I’ll try resubmitting like that instead of just within the park.

Hi, you got a lot of great advice already, and I would also suggest focusing on the gate for your pictures, otherwise it’s just a lot of empty green space and/or the water source.

I just want to comment on “it’s on Google Maps so it’s legit”. I would not recommend using this argument or relying on it in your reviewing. Google Maps pins are community contributed and can be incorrect or outright fake or abusive. I would suggest treating them like any other community created source of information, but not like definitive proof of existence.
