Hi,
Bit of an odd one but does anyone know what causes gyms in pokemon go to become elite gyms or EX Raid gyms?
I live in a rural area and our town has about 20 gyms, as does the nearest neighbouring town but only one of ours is an elite gym, whereas they have about 10, so just wondered if they had different criteria wjen being approved or whether there was a way we could request someone to look at it at all?
Thanks
I used to know the rules for EX gyms. I assume it’s still the same. I would recommend Googling EX gyms to find that answer.
This article talks about it some
It has something to do with the type of terrain they’re marked on on OpenStreetMap, I think. If they’re located in parks and similar areas, they’re usually Elite gyms.

Yeah general rule of thumb is if the map is dark green in Go, the gym should be an Elite gym. Thats not perfect but its a good guide.
Someone who understand Open Street Maps posted that they are using data this old to determine Elite Gyms
Elite Raid Eligibility Areas: February 25, 2019
If a gym is in an area that is Elite eligible, the tag is normally applied on the 25th of the month.
Since this post is not related to Wayfarer, I have closed this thread. Thank you for your understanding.
