- Wayspot Title: Broadway and 5th Avenue Mosaic
- Location (lat/lon): approx 42.66150911498106, 23.282046983760296
- City: Sofia
- Country: Bulgaria
- Additional Information (if any): Not sure why this was removed as it is a valid wayspot. Not in restricted area, accessible to everyone as it it on the street. A beautiful art mosaic with lots of colours and shapes. It is part of the local initiative for making things better in the neighbourhood by adding different types of art on the streets. There are scans of this portal submitted a while ago so it can also be verified looking at the videos which are pretty good quality. My assumption is that the location might be in question so I am adding the photos below to make it easier. I guess the Google car didn’t go there while mapping the area.
The wayspot key:
Satellite:
The arrow shows the entrance of the street which leads to the wayspot. You can easily position google streetview there and see.
Streetview:
This is the streetview screenshot, easily accessible any time. The arrow at the far end shows where the street turns towards the wayspot. Easily visible on the satellite screenshot.
Street photo 1:
Matches google streetview.
Street photo 2:
This one is closer to the street turn, showing more details of the area to verify the location.
Street photo 3:
This one is at the street turn.
Street photo 4:
This one is after the turn and the wayspot is few meters from it. Right on the street, very public and very accessible.
Street photo 5:
This is from the wayspot side/angle to show the same street location in case there is still doubt.
Street photo 6:
Once again the wayspot itself.
Please reinstate. Thank you!
Hello, just wanted to clear a misconception, scans are not used as evidence for removals or restorations, unless they are Scaniverse Splats directly linked as evidence.
Also, just to be thorough in your appeal, what type of property is behind the wall of the mosaic?
Hi and thanks for the reply. Didn’t know that these scans are not evidence. Good to know.
All buildings around the wayspot (including the ones behind the fence/wall) are multi floor residential buildings. They are not one-family private houses if this is the concern. Actually the mosaic is located between two of these multi floor residential buildings. I think one is 3 floors and the other is 4 or 5. Let me know if you need me to photograph more.
Edit:
- Here is a shot from streetview of the front of the building. It is 4 floors and probably around 12 apartments. The one on the right (the neighboring building) is 5 floors.
My guess is that it may have been removed for safe pedestrian access because there’s no footpath that allows you to stand where the mosaic is. You’d have to stand on the road to touch it.
Thanks for the appeal, @fringere. We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Wayspot.
Wow, you guys really are killing real art wayspots that people can actually visit and have positive emotions with. Way to go. Leave the graffiti scribbles all over cause they contribute to the culture and wellbeing of mankind LOL. Sad to know that someone actually makes a decision to remove the stop and actually believes they have real reason
Unbelievable.
Niantic have actually been removing lots of graffiti based wayspots lately. You are welcome to report any you see if you agree that they shouldn’t have been accepted in the first place.
As I said in my previous comment, from your pictures it makes it seem like the mosaic was likely removed for unsafe pedestrian access, as you need to be able to safely stand within touching distance of it, and that would place you on a road, even if it’s a quiet road.
