Removed Wayspot

Hello,

A Wayspot I nominated was accepted and appeared in Pokémon GO about one month ago, but it has now been completely removed.

  • Wayspot Title: Hôtel à insectes
  • Location (lat/lon): 48°59’42.9"N 2°13’35.0"E
  • City: Franconville
  • Country: France
  • Acceptance date: 2026-02-04
  • Removal noticed: 2026-03-03

Could you please clarify the official removal reason?

The object is a permanent insect hotel located near a sidewalk and a residential building area. I would simply like to understand which guideline led to the removal.

Thank you.

I will be honest that does not look super permanent. It does not appear on street view or apple maps. Easier coordinates: 48.9952500, 2.2263889

I am sorry but this doesnt appear in any street view. So people might think that its not permanent. May i know who put it there? Since its gone, it might be reported by local people who cant see it on the spot.

Thanks for your reply.

Indeed, it was installed in early 2026, while the last Street View capture dates back to September 2025. Regarding Apple Maps, I haven’t been able to find the date of the latest imagery, but it appears to be several years old.

In general, is it an issue if a Wayspot does not appear on one of these services, even if the location itself can clearly be identified? Based on the latest imagery dates, the next update might not occur for another year or two.

I don’t live in the immediate neighborhood, but I assume it was installed by the city, as I have seen other similar insect hotels elsewhere in the city.

Thank you for your feedback.

As I mentioned earlier, the insect hotel was installed in early 2026, while the latest Street View imagery dates from September 2025, and Apple Maps appears to use older imagery as well. This likely explains why it does not appear on those services yet.

That said, I understand your point regarding the perception of permanence. Do you think the removal was mainly because it might not seem permanent, or because it is located close to private property?

It is not essential for something to appear on streetview/apple maps. It definitely helps though.

When something has a temporary look-and-feel, as though it is something that could have been put there just for the creation of the wayspot, having streetview/apple images is very helpful.

This specific point came up recently with some trail markers, which were of a style that they could have put put up by anyone, but streetview showed they had been there for around 10 years.

Its not requirement if the object looks permanent like mural but insect hotel seems like something that can be carried away.

You need to prove that this is permanent and not temporary object thats placed there to create wayspot. I guess it will help if you have website link that show this insect hotel project or you can show how this insect hotel anchored to the ground.

Last, since this is reported by someone, does the object still there?

Thanks for the appeal, @darkmacron! We have taken another look, but stand by our decision to retire this Wayspot.
