Restaurants/Cafe’s

Why are some Restaurants/Cafe’s approved for Poke Stops while others are not? There is no consistency in the reviewing process with these types of submissions. Not all are approved while some are. Am I missing something here? Should I not be approving Restaurants/Cafe’s/Fast food joints? I’m trying to wrap my head around this one. Can someone please help me out?

Hello and welcome,

Many see any business as a generic business, and thus reject as such. However, not all of these businesses are generic, but the submitter hasn’t proven this. Below is the clarification:

I see many nominations for restaurants that just give the name as the title and type of restaurant in the description. This doesn’t tell me that it’s meets criteria and worth seeking out if I was in that area. Because the burden of proof is always on the submitter, lack of info in a nomination may doom a local restaurant/cafe and get it rejected.

Personally, I do my research on a local restaurant/cafe before submitting it. I will look online to see if they have a website or social media and use that info to help craft a good description, even include the link in the supporting info. Here’s one of my last nominations for a local sports cafe that may be helpful:

I note the type of food they are known for, that they have a dog-friendly patio that’s open during the warner months, and that it’s family friendly in the description. I put the link to their website in the supporting info, as well as note that they hold many fundraisers for charity, which may make it a little more interesting of a place. I was able to prove that this is a great place to be social and may by worth exploring, and it was approved without issue.

As for chain restaurants/cafes, these are the toughest to get approved, and some get nominated due to them having sponsored Wayspots. For example, Starbucks in the US has had some sponsored Wayspots in PoGo since December 2016, but they haven’t added any to their sponsorship deal since then. So, some do try to nominate every new Starbucks that opens, but most are in heavily trafficked areas and are just another chain coffee shop to most.

I rarely see chains restaurants/cafes get approved as it’s almost never proven that they might be more than just a chain store.

I search for reviews when I review a restaurant. I have a standard in mind that I use as a guide. If you tell me it’s the most popular place in town and it has only 10 reviews, it’s probably a no.

Thank you for your response. I will be sure to keep that information in mind while reviewing Poke Stop nominations. It clarifies a lot for me, as I truly was baffled how some nominations were approved while others were not. Thanks again.

Interesting. I’ll have to incorporate that into my Poke Stop reviewing. Thank you for your response.
