Restore Wayspot removed on title change request

Or to use the mural example? The art changes but the wall it is on doesn’t. This is the exact same situation, except it is a frame and not a wall.

This is a very bad decision. Rotating art stations are fabulous POI, yet they are incredibly difficult to maintian through the regular process. We shouldn’t have to battle with the staff who seemingly understand what is going on, too.

This is absolutely why i do very few edits to correct these things. The stance shouldn’t be to have an incorrect map instead of risk losing POI and game interaction points.

I so dearly miss the “disagree” feature right now.

Couple posts would have a lot of those wouldn’t they… instead every other post gets a heart.

Yikes… @NianticAaron, this could have a chilling effect on people trying to improve the lightship map. If you remember, players were apprehensive in PoGo to scan wayspots for fear of them being removed.

Now, if someone is trying to update a title and the wayspot gets removed?

If this is going to be the official rule. It should be stated somewhere fairly easy for Explorers to access like maybe, Wayfarer Basics.

I’m going to pile on and say, I don’t think this is a good idea or practice at all. It sounds like you’ve lost @cyndiepooh as an editor of titles out of fear that could have been prevented. Or at least made clear to her so she could have made the decision to do it in the first place.

@NianticAaron I hope you do not feel backed into a corner now where you feel like you have to stand by the removal. I get flustered when I am upset, and had left out that significant link (that I had included in the help chat report) that NCMA calls this art display “Park Pictures” when you originally commented. I am sure I had also thoroughly confused help chat by getting my directions turned around trying to submit the edit, as I documented here: Need to withdraw edit - #3 by cyndiepooh
So I committed several blunders. I am definitely not perfect. But it makes no sense to me to remove the old art to submit new art on the same frame.

Since when? It used to be thay if rotating art pieces were a poi, it was just tk update the picture and title each time, as the area is stilm a permaanent thing. This seems a really tupid thing, to remove it, then resubmit only to temove it and resubmit a year later

The Wayspot was never the art station, it was the art with a specific name. This was always temporary. The art should not have been accepted in the first place.

I disagree.

As a reviewer, how do you expect to find the context that art may be rotating to have rejected it to begin with?

Op has called it out.

I understand the context provided by the OP.

I struggle with this. As a reviewer, I try to be careful with approving things that may be temporary or are intended to be painted over, especially knowing how difficult and unclear the edit process is. But I also don’t spend much time looking up outside resources to determine the expected life span of art not typically reject something I suspect to be rotating but permanent.

I don’t think it’s as clear as “should not have been accepted” and I’ve challenged Niantic in the past to do better with situations like that. Wayfarer itself is old enough that it should be at a maturity to be more clear.

Now that it’s clear that the art was temporary, what’s the fuss about? Temporary items have always been removed.

there’s permanently art at this location. you can expect to find something interesting there every time you go. this doesn’t fit the “spirit” of the temporary guideline.

What was the title of the Wayspot again? What was the object? Was it one particular art or was it the location? If the Wayspot is connected to an art, and it’s gone, it should be removed.

Or updated to fit the art that’s currently there.

And that has been established to be against the criteria.

yes and we’re arguing with niantic that that criteria is misguided and needs to evolve.

oh and also it doesn’t apply to murals for some reason.

Is this bizarro world? They provide evidence that it’s permanent but Niantic’s interpretation is insane here to say it’s temporary…
