Seating area appeal rejected – Advice needed on socialization & scenic criteria

Hi everyone,

I recently appealed a seating area nomination that was initially rejected by the AI, as I believe it perfectly fits the criteria for a Wayspot. Unfortunately, the Niantic appeal also came back rejected.

I previously saw a post here discussing bench/seating criteria, which stated that benches are acceptable if they encourage socialization or offer a scenic viewpoint. In my opinion, this location fulfills both: it is a great spot to socialize, and it features a scenic view.

Could someone please help me understand why this appeal was rejected? Is there any way I can improve my nomination to change the outcome if I resubmit it?

Thank you for your help!

This is the translated version:
Title: Upper Drau rest area
Description:A wooden seating area with a table, firmly anchored in the ground, is located directly on the banks of the Drava River. The set serves as a public rest and recreation point for hikers and cyclists on the local recreational trail and invites visitors to linger in nature.
Supplemental information:A publicly accessible rest stop located off-road directly on the riverbank. The location offers safe access for pedestrians and is firmly anchored in the ground.

This looks like a beautiful spot to stop, enjoy the view, and share a picnic. I believe it does meet criteria and I hope tha tthe team can revisit this appeal decision

Hello and welcome @clexomat

It is clearly a picnic place. There is nothing in the clarification about a specific number of tables required.

From what you have provided I would happily have submitted this.

The phrase “normal, single table” is not something I have seen before. The clarification says that a group of picnic tables should be submitted as a single picnic area, but it does not say that single tables are not eligible. Picnic Areas

And the view from here would be spectacular, too, as a view bench.

Would you mind providing the gps coordinates (you can find them after the photos in your submission email) so we can confirm that this isn’t just one bench among many? Unless that is the case, I hope this decision can be overturned.

2 examples here of single benches I’ve had approved on appeal. One for the view, and one as a picnic bench. Can’t get more normal than a block of concrete but the view makes it special.

Tracking the outcome of this as I have this on my shortlist to submit in a neighboring village. I do remember reading in guidelines about scenic views and i beleive yours does tick that box.

Of course, here are the GPS-coordinates of the wayspot: 46.785623, 13.485989
Thank you for your feedback!

Ty! No issues here, and looks like a destination worth seeking out to me!

Appeal has been accepted. Thank you all for your help!

Brilliant news!!
