Small Library, Memorial Benches and trail Markers

where does the comunity stand on Small Library, Memorial Benches and Trail Markers?

Typically, little free libraries are okay unless on residential property, at a primary school, etc.
Memorial benches are different. If the bench is just an unadorned bench without any substance in the description, those are typically not accepted. That assumes the location is appropriate. Otherwise, memorial benches can work but are difficult to get accepted.
Trail markers are good according to Niantic if the location is appropriate. If you nominate every trail marker, you might create duplicate photos if the nominations are too close together.
Those are my thoughts from nominating and reviewing.

There are clarifications on all those topics in Criteria Clarification Collection that I think are very well done. These can also be found on the wayfarer website as a list: Niantic Wayfarer

You are reviewing these correctly imo. I also mark them as not “Distinct.” Unfortunately, you don’t always get an agreement for reviewing correctly. I would encourage you to keep reviewing by criteria to the best of your good judgement. If you feel that you have to skip these, that is an option, but the clarification says these memorial benches for random people are not eligible, so I would advise that you not accept them.

There is criteria clarifications on all 3:

More info on Wayspot criteria, including what is and isn’t acceptable, can be found here:

You can mark memorial benches as not distinct. You can even search the Home Depot site (or whatever sells home and garden items around you) and probably find that bench for a few hundred dollars.

If you rather, you could conceivably mark them “Generic Business” because they’re just fundraisers for the town or park. This park is attempting to sell 10,000 bench plaques. Adopt-A-Bench | Central Park Conservancy Over a billion humans have lived and died on this earth - the ones with friends rich enough to buy a plaque aren’t inherently better than the other 999,999,999+. IOW: It’s a business to sell these plaques.

I don’t think there is a community consensus on benches yet, and I am tempted to skip them. I am trying to improve my rating and I cannot afford to take a 50-50 chance on memorial benches.

A few weeks ago, I accepted a memorial for a beloved surgeon that had passed away (according to the description). It was positioned in the courtyard of the hospital. After a few weeks of not showing up on ingress, I assume the community rejected it.

A few days ago, I rejected a memorial bench with the generic title “memorial bench”. It named the person in the description, but didn’t say anything about her or her contribution to the community. Community accepted it. What are your thoughts on “memorial bench”? Would you have accepted it?

fwiw, from your description here I would have accepted the one from the surgeon, and from your post of the review, I would have rejected the one titled “Memorial Bench” for the same reason you did.

I had been considering to skip them all because I am starting to wonder whether I was just not understanding the criteria. So thank you for backing me up.

I was 0 for 4 that day.
I rejected this one because those exact same signs are all over. Community accepted it.

I used to always accept trail markers like the two below, but I rejected both in my attempt to improve my rating. Community accepted both, though I do get why the mile marker was accepted.

This mini libary is on public space, or is to close to daycare?
