I added a POI of a streetsign of an artist/painter from the 16th century, world famous renaissance painter. Off which many information is available online.
This got a warning for policy violation ==> Policy Violated: Bad quality submissions
The photo itself was high resolution and surroundings clearly depicted the POI.
Is/should a streetsign be acceptable as such when the reference of the person named has a distinctive cultural and historical background?
I know that visibly it is a mere streetsign, but the info you can provide with such a submission gives players the info to read about the background.
Please enter your thoughts.
Can you show us the nomination? It would help us figure out what went wrong

would you post screenshots of your submission? are you sure the violation was for this one?

Hello @icefr34k
We do need to see some examples of what you are referring to as I have seen a wide range of the sort of sign you mention some of which might be ok other which are not.
Remember a wayspot is a point of interest. There has to be a good link between what you are writing about and the place itself.
So if there is nothing specific relevant about being at the particular spot then it is not an eligible place.
For example a trail marker is a simple object, but being at that specific trail marked point helps you to follwo the trail, and it is following the trail that is interesting.

Yes… just added the example. Wife called… and then we masters of the house jump to attention.

So it looks like this is just a street sign, so the sign irself doesn’t contain any additional information?
We have seen some submissions where the sign has an information box added containing details about the area, and those tend to do quite well.
We have also seen signs with QR codes that link to additional information, those seem hit and miss
We have also seen signs where the sign itself has artistic additions, for example an aviation theme to road names on an estate meant they added a silhouette style top to each sign which showed the aircraft the road was named after! Those seemed to be accepted easily.
But when its a straightforward sign, these do not tend to be accepted even when the person provides the interesting information in the description.
I dont see why its a submission that would cause any trouble though? What was the text you used - itd help to see screenshots of how everything was submitted

Hi @elijustrying
Have added the example of my query.
Regarding bike/hiketrails.
Most have and are being removed. Although i always add, example : [biketrail “number” - streetname]
Thus making it refering to a poi but also making it more unique in regards to poi naming.
Big discussion is still ongoing here.
Criteria clearly states the biketrails are eligible but they do get removed from the game aswell.
Personally i rarely add bike or hiketrails. Only if a region has very poor portal/poi coverage.
Hey @frealafgb
I have added three screenshots as requested.
The rejection was for not permanent and no historical or cultural reference.
So for an opinion from a community member: I googled “street name signs in belgium” and this seems to be a pretty common type. So I wouldn’t submit it, and would reject it in voting as not distinct. It seems like you made a good faith explanation as to why you found it interesting, and I think sending you an abuse warning for this was a little harsh. Maybe since you appealed it, they wanted to make it really clear that it wasn’t acceptable.

This is also what Im struggling with. Submitting something that doesnt meet criteria even though you thought it could isnt the same thing as abuse.

Maybe this was one of those scary sounding educational emails that isn’t really a warning?

I could agree about the disctint.
But the rejectin is on abuse (?) and also not cultural and not historical.
These reasons should not have been set and most certainly not a flag warning imho
Don’t think so.. The link in the email gave me the standard info and aswell the option to appeal the decision of warning. Which i offcourse entered with plenty of detail.
Saying it is abuse, non historical and none cultural… when it is in regard to one of the masters of painting of the renaissance era in the 16th century…
I think if regular street signs for streets named after historical/cultural figures were eligible, here in the US we’d see a lot of Wayspots for the various long streets named after MLK Jr, for example. I used to live somewhere where one of the busiest streets still is Washington St, but just regular street signs along it.
@cyndiepooh @elijustrying @frealafgb @DTrain2002
In addition to my query here i am glad to announce that niantic has indeed reinstated all for me with due to my well informed detail of appeal.
I have added both screenshots for you. Maybe it can help others with similar issue.
