Suggesting removal of all Little Free Libraries

In my neighbourhood from where I sit at home I can see four PokeStops associated with Little Free Libraries that are located on private property. My latest Little Free Library nomination was rejected for being on private property. I think, considering the majority of LFLs are put up by homeowners at the edge of their properties it only makes sense that the rules apply across the board: they should all be removed across the whole map.

Welcome to the forum!

This is an interesting suggestion. I know there are a LOT of LFL’s that seem to be on SFPRP to me. But there are a lot that are at good locations, and that the communities love.

I do wish there were an easier one size fits all rule for when it “counts” as SFPRP instead of trying to figure out all the local laws.

Hello and Welcome @ceeanuh
It is frustrating when we get a nomination denied and then see others around that are the same or you may view them even as inferior. Its a natural reaction but it is not going to really do any good.
LFL are eligible. So each has to be assessed on an individual basis to see if it is acceptable. The location of them is critical. If it is not an acceptable place then it should not be approved. But mistakes happen.
If you want to keep the map accurate (which is a healthy reason) then the logical path here is if they are on Sinngle Family Private Residential Property you report them for removal. Provide evidence in each case that they are on SFPRP.
If you only want them removed because you didnt get one, but essentially you think that sort of thing is ok because you would do it, then I advise you to reflect on that as it is not a good starting point.

On a positive note if you would little help to find things in your area that you could nominate and make good submissions, you are welcome to post in Nomination Support and we will try to help.

What you suggest isn’t really feasible. The little free libraries that have been accepted that are on private residential property should be removed, yes, but there are plenty of little free libraries that are in places that are not private residential property.

For example, the nearest five little free libraries that I’m aware of in my area are all in public locations. One is outside a business, one is outside a block of flats in a communal area, and the other three are in decommissioned phone boxes. Two of those are in small villages that have very few eligible candidates for wayspots, and I know that the rural players there were very grateful for me travelling to their villages to help give them something to interact with.

They meet the eligibility criteria, so it seems harsh to want to get rid of them just because a few of them are on private residential property.

Removing all of them is a strong word, maybe look through your local ones and remove the necessary ones. :3

Hello and welcome,

I’m against removing all LFLs, especially those that are at appropriate locations. I’ve submitted ones outside of businesses, in public parks, at rec centers, etc, all appropriate locations. I’ve also removed many on PRP, as they still pop up from time to time in my area.

Staff has clarified both PRP and LFLs in the Criteria Clarification Collection, and they have made sure to note that if something appears on PRP, it should be considered inelgible.

Personally, I’d submit removal requests for all 4 in your neighborhood if you believe they’re on PRP.
