Little free libraries, approved, appear, then vanish in a few weeks

I noticed a couple of nearby little free library stops appear over the past year and have even set up routes to visit them. Both libraries appear to straddle the boundary between private property and the public sidewalk. In both cases the stops are deleted within a few weeks of first appearing. Why is this happening? Clearly they passed wayfarer scrutiny to be created in the first place. I can’t imagine that the library owners don’t want to encourage the potential book swapping public to visit. They are certainly not in unsafe places, I am certainly confused and wonder if it even worth re-submitting?

Hello and welcome,

By any chance were these LFLs on private property, such as a single family private residential property, or PRP for short? If this is the case, these were never eligible to be Wayspots in the first place, but the reviewers that voted on them didn’t know this or didn’t care, and approved them to be Wayspots. While LFLs themselves are eligible, where they are could make them ineligible, and the most likely reason is that they were on PRP. More info can be found at the following:

This is an important note in regards to PRP:

It is never a good idea to re-submit something that has been removed. If the LFL was removed because it was determined to be ineligible, it might be seen as abuse to resubmit it.

You could appeal in Wayspot Appeals for reinstatement with evidence that the location is eligible and the LFL still exists.

It could be accepted by niantic AI or by reviewer thats not aware of SFPRP.

In my area, just about half of the LFLs that have been accepted should have been rejected. Mostly because on private property, a handful because unsafe, and every once in a while, one a school property.

Provide more info on where it was, and someone will probably be able to deduce why it was removed.

Some of it because many people want home wayspot and install LFL in their own SFPRP.

I don’t think most homeowners are the ones nominating. It could be their children, if they have any, or any other players in the neighborhood. Yes, there are some homeowners that nominate, but not all.

The laws on what constitutes private property and what constitutes public property vary from place to place. In some jurisdictions, private property extends all the way to the roadside.

IMO, most of the LFLs I have seen are either attached to a wall of the property or and just inside it, therefore ineligible.

Agree that it differs from place to place, as where I live in the US, most are on posts put into the ground in the front lawn of PRP, next to the sidewalk.

Mostly but not necessarily, in an area of my country there was an enlightened soul (nothing related to the ingress faccion), who decided to go to Google to look for photos of all the gyms and name everything, with images on the net and prints, when they were reported they were all removed, despite being valid, they stopped being so because someone wanted to be more intelligent and lazy. in this case a legitimate appointment will validate a POID legitimately, I don’t know if this is the case but it is also a possibility.

I don’t quite understand what you are saying. But Niantic does not remove Wayspots just because an “enlightened soul” asks them to. They will have had evidence presented that is convincing, or will agree with the report that the Wayspot should be removed from looking at Maps. Niantic does not take removing Wayspots lightly.

No the enlightened one did not report the enlightened one submitted. :joy::rofl:
That’s exactly what I’m saying, a person submitted POIDs at home with images from the internet, massively, they were all reported and deleted. That’s what I’m saying. It was reported and rightly.

Ah, yes. There’s always one person locally who discovers Wayfarer and thinks everyone else is doing it wrong because it’s so easy to just download Third Party photos from the internet and submit them for places all over town.

Yes, that is easy. And completely against the rules!

Eventually, someone will explain it to them, or they will give up because all their wayspots are removed.

What is a “POID” ?

Or they will get a warning/ban for the abuse…

@MysticAll I don’t think most of those that submit LFL on PRP fully know the criteria. I myself submitted one when I started, and it was rejected by the community for PRP. I didn’t quite understand, but I looked it up on the forums and found my answer. I now try to remove LFLs on PRP instead of submitting them.
