Suggestion: Max Powerspot Images

Possibly not interpreting the way I mean.

I can’t talk about the other games, but from Pokemon Go’s perspective, there are two types of location and it doesn’t matter at all whether they were imported or created from wayspots:

  • Pokestops/Gyms
  • Powerspots

From the perspective of wayfarers, there are two types of location:

  • Wayspots
  • Other things (which don’t affect wayfarers because they don’t block submissions)

These two ways of categorising the objects in the system do not match well. What actually exists are:

  • Pokestops/gyms created from wayspots submitted by wayfarers
  • Pokestops/gyms created from imports which are now wayspots (e.g., Foursquare in Turkey)
  • Pokestops/gyms created from imports which are not wayspots (e.g., street corners)
  • Powerspots created from wayspots submitted by wayfarers
  • Powerspots created from imports which are not wayspots

It is perfectly possible to give images to the non-wayspot objects which don’t impact Pokemon Go, because the image doesn’t change how it functions in PoGo. It is also perfectly possible to prevent edits to the non-wayspot objects, because this is wayfaring, so the inability to edit some powerspots and some pokestops/gyms doesn’t affect gameplay at all.

It would be wonderful if the non-wayspot objects could have non-wayspot images to make it clear they are not wayspots, so that when new wayfarers come on board, they don’t think that the street corners, random shops and private homes that show up in their game and on their submission map mean that they can successfully submit street corners, random shops and private homes.

It could be a mixup of definition being used by Tintino. I am curious if these show up on the duplicates maps or not. Inclusion on those screens would help indicate one way or the other. Currently, Powerspots show up on the PoGO duplicates nomination interface but not during the Wayfarer review duplicates interface.

I still think some way to edit Powerspot imports (heck, corners & bus stops) should be available but also agree that within Wayfarer may not be the best place. But correcting businesses and locations absolutely can affect gameplay.

And yes, lots of suggestions from everyone about better images, labels, and visuals to help differentiate these.

I agree with your suggestion.
By the way, I should mention that some of their teams are already doing this.
They have deployed Pokestops and gyms in Indonesia with the balloon ship symbol with “Niantic” written on them, although it is unclear until they are temporary.

I believe that these measures were taken primarily by the PoGo team.
In contrast, they have done nothing on Foursquare, Overture Maps, and this import, which I believe were done primarily by the Wayfarer team.
So they should standardize internally what they should do in importing spots.
And this kind of importation that affects the game should not be done by the Wayfarer team, but by the respective game teams.
