I almost never get to review for a town Ive even been to, let alone near where I live. Many are hundreds of miles away. Its definitely unsatisfying
Actually I don’t get much from mine ……
.i’m just as likely to get yours @frealafgb
The fact that you’re saying “town” makes me think that the place you live may be smaller. Boston is one of the most densely-populated cities in the United States and has one of the most active Pokemon GO communities in the U.S.
When we’ve been blessed with active Wayfarers and submissions we haven’t been able to find nominations in the queue. I’d still like to get to the bottom of the topic and see if the issue is indeed a lack of reviewers or why it is that we cannot find local nominations. There are often plenty outside of city limits, but we’re historically been unable to find local nominations and get resolutions on submissions.
My town is around 350,000 people, and Im 35 miles outside of London, and honestly there isnt much to separate all the towns in between here and there. So its a very densely populated area.
Trying to look up population density… we’re about 1/3 the geographical size of Boston but with half the people… so more densely populated! And considering all the towns basically join up and merge into London, yeah, theres a LOT of people here!!
Do you see nominations from London and its exurbs?
I just popped in saw three nominations from my bonus area, seven from Silicon Valley (2,000 miles away) and one from Maine (200 miles away).
I understand that some of those noms were probably upgraded, and feel sorry for whoever nominated a cannabis store…
Yes, London is not unusual. Neither is Manchester. Or Scotland, Wales, Ireland… I get photo reviews from France too.
Everything in southern England is fairly close compared to here. Within 50miles of London you’ve got Reading, Southwick, Brighton, Worthing, Oxford, Cambridge, and England’s cultural center, Staines. All of these places have significant population sizes.
Outside of the cities that border Boston there are only 2-3 cities of consequence within 50mi: Providence, RI, Worcester, MA, and debatably Nashua, NH.
It looks like adjustments to the radius need to be made for your area. London is one of the largest cities on the globe and I can understand how everything gets sucked into its epicenter.
Indeed yes all the places merge together in this area
And yet I still see a lot of rural nominations and my queue doesnt have more from London than other places Id say. Its just a huge spread across the country.
You guys just have a lot more space than us
Greetings and seasons tidings,
Thanks to everyone who’s taken the time to follow this thread. As noted last month we put some local effort in to submitting POIs and a few great community members have put some really great effort into reviewing. I especially want to recognize BigBilly617 who will likely never read this, but completed several hours of reviews. They got both their first POI approved and made a Pokemon Gym which they found extremely rewarding!
What we’re currently seeing across many submissions from a half dozen individuals is that nominations are currently taking 20-30 days to reach resolution, which is a 300-400+ day improvement from 1yr ago and well within a reasonable timeframe for resolutions.
Special thanks to those who have been kind enough to set their bonus locations to Boston - your help has undoubtedly been critical to helping mitigate the issue.
Glad we were able to make an impact!
That’s really great.
I’m sure all that helped do some Boston reviews will appreciate the update and the good news.
The trick now is to keep people reviewing so that generally the queue moves.
I stumbled across this thread where you mentioned a local challenge, where was this organized? I’d love to join that community
Hello and welcome,
There hasn’t been a Wayfarer challenge as of late that’s been focused on the Boston area. Most likely the local users challenged themselves to add more reviewers to the community to help cut down on queue times, and this could have been down through local groups, Campfire, and/or social media.
It seems as of Dec 2024 that the queue had gotten much better, per this post:
There doesn’t seem to be anything of note from the Boston area since then, but if there still was, they may ask for help again not only here, but some of the other places noted above.
Hi @N0mz - this was organized via Campfire and Discord. If you’re looking for local trainers you should join Campfire and the BOSTON Pokemon GO Community Ambassador group.
There is some discussion of doing another event soon but we haven’t set anything in stone. We don’t yet have any idea whether or not we’ll actually pull local nominations when we review and the people with many Wayfarer reviews have all-but stopped while focusing on other things. Happy to kickstart things again.
What discord? Most of the Boston local ones I’ve looked through are pretty dead.
I don’t want to necro this thread any further. The Southie/Boston Pokémon GO Discord is linked via the mentioned Campfire.
