Thoughts on Zoos?

Scanning is not trying to “catch” wayspots. It will show the wayspot from all angles, but not for any reason connected to Wayfarer.

Oh yes I know that. That actually wasn’t the point of my comment. It was about the two wayspots being a duplicate. But I guess I am the only one who feels that way. :person_shrugging:

I believe scans ARE looked at, for removal requests. And I believe AI looks at them for photo auto-accepts.

Niantic hasn’t said one way or another. But I think they LOVE scans, and want to use them as many ways as they can. They consider scans part of the database. And 3D imaging is the cool fun thing to work on (along with ML / AI) , so they WANT to use them.

(Emails are old, boring things to work on, so they don’t.)

That’s, um, A LOT of assumptions.

I’ve worked in many IT shops, as developer and tester. IOW I have experience in how techno people (and their managers) think and act. There is much evidence that Niantic is the same.

Some IT departments have marketing, or business analysts, to care about pleasing their customers - and IT has to do what they say. Niantic is not one of those companies.
Or, they consider Wayfarers as contract workers - a dime a dozen.

Until Niantic learn to adequately communicate, assumptions and guesswork are mostly all we have in many cases unfortunately.

That’s rather my point. I think it detracts from the exploring part of the game…when you have too high a density of Pokestops it takes away from the game for me. I’d rather have less but better quality. For me “Another animal in a cage” loses on the distinct aspect.

Each game has their own density rules that mitigate your concern. Just because wayspots have been accepted to the Lightship database doesn’t mean they are all in the games.

Some areas will have denser points of interest because it is in their nature. It is implicit that some areas are made for exploration, exercise, recreation, and socialization. Same thing with parks, entertainment districts, and rec centers, those would be populated with distinct POIs within the larger whole.

We are checking whether or not the submission meets at least an eligibility criterion on its own qualities for it to be a qualified candidate.

An enclosure specific to a type of animal would be of interest to people who have a liking to the specified animal(s). Sure, people would want to see the entirety of the zoo because they paid for it but that one enclosure may be the highlight of the person’s visit. The activity (viewing animals) is the same but the subject (the specific animals) is not.

Inclusion rules shouldn’t be a concern when Wayfaring, the app teams decide on that.
