Hi @Searmonix
Welcome to the forum :hugs:
I fear your attempt won’t be successful. Your first report has been denied. You could appeal it here in the forum (category Wayspot Appeals) but as we can see on your attached streetview there’s a well maintained sidewalk. So not entirly dangerous.
To demote a gym to a pokestop you need to be the property owner. Than you can fill a form and ask for it.

Hello @Searmonix
Wayfarer is not responsible for the selection of the status of pokestops or gyms.
The in game advice is that players are responsible for their own safety and to take care whilst playing. So the arguments you make about visiting the location are not strong, as there are places to stand and the work still exists. There is no requirement that a player has to visit every location. You visit the ones you feel comfortable to do so.

Google streetview, in the image you posted, shows several people walking along the pavement/sidewalk. As there is clear pedestrian access to both sides of the road, wayspots can exist anywhere along this road without issue. There is no reason for removal.

Hi, @AliceWonder1511

Thank you for your amicable reply.

When I first reported the Gym, I made sure to attach a picture that supported the solitude mentioned in my post, which unfortunately didn’t save in my phone.

It is also worth mentioning that the Streetview provided is one that was taken 2 years ago, if I am not mistaken, so its accuracy is outdated. An updated description of the sidewalks would be: there are open manholes with their lids stolen or missing without any warnings to account for that; there is litter and debris left by the same factories those Graffiti are painted on; pavement is sunken and uneven; lightning is very poor, it doesn’t count with enough lamp posts to clearly illuminate all the hazards; drug addicts and burglars gather there often; there are no bus stops, so people only use that street as a shortcut to the public transport station, and when it’s not being used for that, it is a desolate landscape; and finally, Graffiti, including the one used as a Gym, have been vandalized.

Since the picture was taken from Pokémon Go’s report feature, and as a result, the image wasn’t saved, so I can’t provide you with supporting images. What I can do, however is attach some Google Maps reviews that also describe what I said, to prove that it isn’t just my perception:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/A8jUyTQwX15QBdZw7
https://maps.app.goo.gl/jhfHwbUyhXudMUBPA
https://maps.app.goo.gl/f6NRaYegdRQUz58u8
https://maps.app.goo.gl/pvkGNApm2Y7epd376
https://maps.app.goo.gl/pgakcygeh3hf5E536

Despite this, it still has an average rating of 4.4 stars. Do keep in mind that not all of the reviews were made by residents of that neighborhood, but by tourists or people who won’t have to go through that street daily, interact with unpleasantly people and traverse it at varying hours throughout the day. (Some are even rating the public transport station nearby, or even the entire portion of the city  )

I hope that clarified a lot of my reasoning behind the original report, and highlights the need to revoke its Gym status. Although this Gym does comply with Nomination Criteria, those reasons have been dwindling over time and have become superficial: while you can get there safely, you can’t walk there nor stay there safely, if you were to take on a Raid; while there is plenty of space for social activities, seldomly does that occur, people would rather not take the risk; and while art is important to the local community, not even can we take the time to appreciate the artwork, which is being victim of climate conditions and vandals.

I’ll be open to hearing your suggestions or further comments,

Thank you kindly for your time, @AliceWonder1511

(By the way, I’ll make sure to answer @elijustrying in a few hours)

As long as there’s safe pedestrian access and the POI still exist the removal is highly unlikely.
And I also think that your chances to get the property owner to request the down grade or removal aren’t high.
So the best thing you should do if you feel uncomfortable at that location, is to not interact with it.

Hello, welcome to the forum.
I believe that mural is part of a project bringing together artists from around the world. One of them is by Pez, an artist from Barcelona, Spain, who also has work in Osaka’s Konohana Ward.
Hearing that these murals are being destroyed by graffiti is deeply regrettable. However, if they are being overwritten by graffiti, depending on the extent, they may no longer qualify as Wayspots. Photographing the condition and sharing it in this discussion might be helpful. To reiterate, if the murals are being overwritten by graffiti, it’s truly heartbreaking.

Hello again, sorry for the late reply.

@elijustrying, you are absolutely right about each player having to ensure their safety before playing, but I believe a Gym’s purpose is a place where being social and serve as a secure point for people to gather is beat in this case, as it isn’t inviting to the locals, rather, places that the community does use, and where congregations do actually occur. Not trying to contradict what you laid clearly, just something I was thinking.

@AliceWonder1511, I have to inquire on what constitutes: safe pedestrian access. Just to avoid redundancy, do you have a list or something that definitively describes it, sidewalks do come in all shapes and forms here in Bogotá, not to mention Colombia. Not all are wheelchair safe, nor intended for them, which is what I would imagine as a base-line.
As an example, just down the road of that street: Google Maps

@CrownFeather, I get you, that street was, unfortunately, only relevant for about 2 years, then, attention slowly faded away. Then, the usual treatment artistic or non-important zones receive, lacking security, no artwork refurbishing, vandalism. It has been disheartening, some people do come, but residents only frequent it because of its proximity to the public transport station.
This is the current state of graffiti the Gym uses as a POI (5 months ago):
Google Maps

I will be expectant for any other reply on this post, regardless of the outcome, so, thank you everyone who contributed (even if you didn’t submit a reply!)

The list which defines it is short:

  • Location is unsafe, without pedestrian access

Source: Rejection criterias

Being wheelchair accesable isn’t the baseline. Imagine how many hiking trails are in game.
An example for unsafe access could be a mural on the wall of a train station behind the tracks. In this example you could see the art from a distance but you can’t go over and touch it safely.
If your sidewalk would be under construction and pedestrians are excluded than it could fullfill removal criteria for unsafetyness.

Oh, I get it now!

Thank you for clearing that up, I’ll take it into consideration when reviewing and nominating
