Upgrades Operating System

Hello everyone. First of all, I would like to clarify two things.

  1. English is not my native language and I use a translator to be understood by as many people as possible. I apologize in advance if there are any ambiguities.
  2. I’m a Pokemon Go player, I know Niantic Wayfarer isn’t specifically designed for that game, but this is where I’m running into weird things. The two are closely related, and the impact of NW has a consequence on my geographical area in PoGo.

I’m creating this thread because I don’t understand much about how the upgrades (in violet) attributed to nominations and the overall Wayfarer system work. Let me explain:

I use Niantic Wayfarer since november and I’ve received four upgrades. The first two were automatically assigned to my Wayspots that were being voted on by the community, then I turned off the automatic feature because it didn’t go as I expected.

Regarding the first upgrade, it’s stated in my contributions that this was applied to an accepted Wayspot, yet it was done on another Wayspot located a few meters further. In itself it’s not so serious, the important thing is that the area has obtained a gym for the community… even if it’s still not the right Wayspot.

For the second upgrade, it was applied on a proposal that was subsequently rejected by the community; at the time, I wondered how that was possible… I made a complaint to Niantic, who accepted the nomination after verification. The Wayspot appeared on Pokémon Go, but as a simple PokéStop and not as a gym. It’s been two weeks and nothing has changed.

Following this, and to avoid any further unpleasant surprises, I personally chose the third upgrade from a proposal that was currently being voted on.

I chose a location that would definitely be accepted, a work of art in an area where there were no nearby Pokestops yet. The proposal was accepted as I expected, but once again, the upgrade wasn’t applied. It’s been two weeks as well, and I’m honestly wondering what’s going on, knowing that my first upgrade was effective in two days.

Today, I have one more upgrade to put on a proposal. Honestly, I don’t know what to do with it. Either the system is broken or there’s something I haven’t figured out. I have a perfect location, but it’s a Wayspot that’s close to another one, and there’s a chance it won’t physically appear in the game even though it’s going to be accepted. I don’t want to take the risk.

I’m discouraged because nothing has gone as planned and getting upgrades requires investment and seriousness, in my case I don’t think it’s profitable. I don’t understand why an upgrade can’t be applied to a Wayspot that already exists, it would be more logical and it would avoid losing them with a refusal or with a Pokestop that doesn’t appear. It’s a game of cat and mouse, if I can put it that way, and it’s problematic.

For now, that’s my experience with Niantic Wayfarer and it’s been more negative than positive, the desire to get more involved is fading. There are still other points to address regarding the Wayfarer operating system that are incomprehensible, but I don’t want to create an even longer topic than it already is.

I thank in advance anyone who takes the time to read my thread and provides explanations and advice, I hope I was as understandable as possible.

Hello @MonsieurG
I am going to move this to nomination support as I don’t believe this is a bug, but if it does turn out to be one we can move it back.
Everyone is welcome to write in whatever language they feel most comfortable in as we have translation tools and also there are wayfinders how speak several other languages so may be able to respond direct.

I think there are a few points that need to be clarified.
Upgrade
It sounds as though you think that this has something directly to do with creating a gym?
It does not upgrade a pokestop to be a gym.
Was that what you were expecting?
It functions to distribute your nomination to more people in the hope that it will resolve quicker.
Have you read this article
https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
It explains how a geographic mapping feature helps determine pokestops and gyms.
If you can provide the names of the wayspots and the locations we can have a more detailed look and try to give a personal explanation.

U nd to understand how gym creation works 1st from the link above. I think there are some misunderstanding here since upgrade got nothing to do with gym selection. Upgrade simply put your review into larger area so it will be reviewed faster. Gym are created when wayspot in certain cell reach certain number.
2 wayspot means 1gym
6 wayspot means 2 gym
20 wayspot means 3 gym

I am so used to what “Upgrade” means for Wayfarer that I didn’t see this completely understandable confusion, especially considering that the in-game prompt tells you that you are submitting a Pokestop. I have given up on getting this wording changed to “Wayspot” after all these years, but that is what it should say.

Thank you all for your replies. Indeed, I thought that an upgrade created a gym, knowing that this could not be done at all pokestops, especially those that are next to each other, that’s why I chose location carefully.

Lately, the AI refuses me eligible Wayspots, of which other similar ones have been accepted, telling me that don’t respect the criteria, without any precision. It’s the same for the voting community, they consider for example that one trail marker is eligible and not the other even though they have exactly the same specificities. It’s tiresome and not encouraging.

Anyway, I’m not going to complain any further, I would still like to fight so that my rejected eligible nominations become accepted before leaving.
I read that appeals against a decision rejected are limited to two appeals every 20 days. Is there a way or place to submit my proposals to have the nomination re-evaluated with a shorter timeframe?
