I was recently warned for misplacing a pin on a staircase because the picture was of the bottom of the staircase but the pin was at the top. I appealed the warning and showed the top and bottom entrances and based on the distance they told me I misplaced the pin by, it’s clear that the issue is that the staff member thinks there is a mismatch between the photo and the pin. The reason why I did this is because the top of the staircase is a more natural point of discovery based on foot traffic but the bottom was more photogenic.
My understanding is that for nominations that are much larger than the size of the pin we should choose the most obvious/safe point of entry but the photo does not have to be that point specifically, just the nomination as a whole. For example, you might nominate a sports field from the edges, but the picture could be the logo in the middle or a net because that best shows what the nomination actually is. I don’t think this was taken into account when reviewing this nomination. I have included links to street view showing that the staircase has two entrances and also a snip of the map, red is the staircase, yellow is the photo location, blue is the nomination.
