Oh. I thought this was a replacement for the sunsetted “Wayfarer App” with the locations, but now for everyone. It is not.
This does work with Chrome on Windows, so you may want to add that info. I don’t think I’ll use it that much, as I like switching back and forth from tabs on my web browser on my laptop; I don’t use Wayfarer that much on my phone, except to check to see if a submission did get uploaded correctly.
Yeah think of it more of a full screen browser version, it is not an actual app in that sense so also won’t get many fancy extra functions
The PWA works great, but there are two issues it would be great if could be fixed:
- The theme color of the PWA is a light gray. This probably works great on light theme, but (at least on Android), the resulting white status bar and navigation buttons at the top and bottom of the screen are quite jarring when Wayfarer is in dark mode. It would be nice if the theme could be adapted to dark theme when dark is active, instead of the following static colors:
"background_color": "#ffffff",
"theme_color": "#e5e5e5",
-
The icon file is transparent, but the transparency becomes orange on the desktop icon, like below. I’m not sure if this is just because of my browser (a Firefox derivative) or if it also applies to Chrome.
This was an emotional roller coster for me when I saw this post…
My simple take is that it’s a fancy type of bookmark.
And I’m sticking with that.
My thoughts exactly!
who still use a PC at home, 75% of people use their phone constantly to do everything, completely useless
I do. I don’t know how y’all review on your phones. Or use this forum on them. I can’t.
Thank you for your valuable thoughts. The progressive app described above is primarily for mobile browsers (while also working on desktop browsers), and the post is illustrated with mobile browser screenshots, so I’m not sure what is “useless” here.
I agree that it will be useful to many, but not for others. I already have Wayfarer as a main bookmark on my browser’s home page on my phone, and don’t mind logging in. Others will find this to be an upgrade to that experience.
Some may also not choose to add it to save space on their phones. It’s an issue I fear running into after getting a new phone over the holidays, as I used to use an external SD card to save my photos and videos. I did upgrade my storage, to be on the safe side, but at times I had to delete apps on my older phones to save space.
Everyone has different pros and cons to everything, different opinions, but I can see a good number of users liking this.
Yes, thank you. I am responding to a specific claim made above, as I would like to understand where the expressed hostility is coming from, as it seems to be disconnected with the statistical argument being made.
I myself review mainly on my laptop, rarely on my phone, and never on my tablet (I don’t use my tablet much, tbh). I even know someone that has all 3 of these devices, but still prefers checking email on their laptop.
Yes, some people may only have a mobile device these days, but there are still many who have multiple devices and may have preference.

Hi @bilde2910, Thank you for your valuable feedback.
For the first point, could you please share a screenshot of what you are referring to?
For the second point, I tested and can confirm that it shows as a transparent background for the Wayfarer icon on the desktop. Could you please re-try and confirm? Also, try checking it from a different browser.
Regards,
