Wayspot is no longer publicly accessible and unsafe for players

Details are as below:

  • Wayspot Title: Taman Seri Kijang Dato Gong Shrine

  • Location (lat/lon): 5.3182342, 100.4751544

  • City: Bukit Mertajam

  • Country: Malaysia

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information)

  • Additional Information (if any):

The gyms was once public accessible but it has being bought by a owner and become a the owners backyard and parking lot.

The latest photo in Google street view was in year 2018 (outdated)

It is now located at the private residential area. Moreover, there is a dog of owner currently guarding at the area and some of the players even get bitten severely.

We can’t get close the location and we do think it is truly unsafe for access into the private land.

Above are the latest photo which I snap in NOVEMBER 2025. The owner even chased us by taking photo and playing game on his backyard.

Our community has tried to report the location but it’s being rejected. We wished to remove the wayspot and hope to make it safe for the players.

Kindly tell me if more evidence is needed. Thanks

I don’t know if this would help your case but the OpenStreetMap does show a full block, that could be SFPRP.

Hello @Victor0427

Can you be clear about this property please.

Is it 1 single family private residential property

Or is it a small group of homes - houses or apartments- where this is in an area that is only accessible to that small group of families ( restricted access)

From the older streetview images it is clear this was a separate plot

The view from the other side of the water.

Can you provide a current view straight on of the plot please?

My pictures you have provided are all featuring what in the past was the adjacent property. If it remains a separate property next to the plot then that is not a reason to remove. It is up to players to consider their own safety and abide by local trespass rules.

Thanks for the appeal @Victor0427 ,

We looked at this location again and decided that the Wayspot doesn’t meet our criteria for removal.

If you’re not certain you have the right to access a location or are not certain it is safe to access, please do not make any attempts to do so. As a player or any other member of the community, you must respect access restrictions, never trespass, or in any manner gain or attempt to gain access to any property or location where you do not have the right or permission to be. Please review and follow the Trainer Guidelines at all times while playing PokĂ©mon GO to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone! If you are having trouble finding PokĂ©Stops or Gyms near you, please try visiting a local park, tourist attraction, or other interesting and historical locations in your community.

Yes, i do agree safety is on our own responsibility. The wayspot is however become a parking lot and backyard of the resident.

And just for information, our country has slightly different rule of owning the lot. The owner of property can have a split lot under the same ownership in same area.

As shown in picture, the lots I mentioned are split by a government road for emergency usage. But the left hand side lot is belong to right hand side owner.

(This is commonly seen in Malaysia. I can provide more photo of this where different lots under same ownership.)

Let’s get back to the topic. The Shrine. The shrine (the wayspot) is initially built by the owner and we can clearly spot a clear path connected to the parking lot back then.

But sadly the owner now fenced the area now and guarded it with a dog. We do suspect he do it so to prevent outsiders and players to get close the location due to insecurity and anger.

That’s also a reason why our players is being scolded by the owners few days back when we get close to this area

Is the shrine for the owner’s use only, or for residents of the area to use as well? If it’s open to other residents then it wouldn’t be considered ineligible - as not all players need access to all PoIs, as long as they can be accessed on foot by people with permission to be there then that’s enough

Hi, Niantic team.

We beg you to reconsider your decision. We could provide more evidence and info to help to clarify and explain this issue.

This wayspot is currently a Gym in PokĂ©mon go, but sadly we currently couldn’t get close and we hardly find other gym in this rural area.

Is there by any chance to downgrade it from a gym into pokestop and upgrade the nearby pokestop into gym?

What we want is just a public and safety place with sufficient space for conducting our community activities without causing inconveniences of others.

Yes I can surely tell It’s for owner use only.

There is a temple nearby and that’s for public use.

This area does not look rural to me - it looks very built up and has a good density of PoIs - would assume this cell contains 3 gyms?

I would simply work on submitting other PoIs and go elsewhere, or avoid the dog by raiding the gym remotely or by approaching from a different direction where the dog can’t get to you.

From this side which is a year old you can still see a metal barrier and a parking area - green area it’s right next to where the shrine is and approaching and being in this area appears to be much safer than where the resident with a dog is marked with a Red Cross. Is there a reason this area is unsuitable? There is no need to stand at the shrine whilst playing the interaction distance is quite large.

In order for this to be removed you need to provide evidence of the status of this object and the lot.

Hey so
is the rural area supposed to have multiple tall building for people to rent and live?

Yea, it is thank to our community who nominate the pokestop massively and turn in into playable area.

That’s also why we cherish every gyms and hopes it is placed into a right place.

Hmm.. I am not so sure what you want to define or clarify. Our city is developing but it’s not compare to larger and better city. That’s also why we nominate every single possible wayspot here.

Rural

Not Rural

Yeah it looks like a brilliant play area (dogs aside) :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

While we can sympathize with making the gameboard more playable, adding descriptors that is not accurate to the area may not bode well.

Typically, high-rise buildings are not present in rural areas. We have seen people talk of ‘rural’ areas denoting “few” wayspots/pokestops which may not mirror the real world interpretation. It is better to stick to the real concepts.

It may fare better to appeal to the Pokémon GO team as how wayspots are utilized by each game is normally decided by each game team.

I do agree your point by parking it at the accessible area. But I do think that’s somehow off topic.

The shrine is gated and guarded, and it’s owned by a private resident.

Even we can get close by somewhere else but the object itself should be violating the guidelines of becoming an eligible wayspot (SFPRP & Safety issue), right ?

I can provide more info or evidence needed for clarification on why it should be removed. Our community would be glad of having everyone sort the things out :folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands:

As you may have noticed, describing this area as rural does not help your case, because it is the complete opposite of a rural area. On the chance that this was a misunderstanding:

Busy city areas - lots of buildings of different types and usage, generally easy to find POI for wayspots

Suburban areas - mostly housing, generally dull from the perspective of finding wayspots

Rural areas - fields, scattered buildings, farms, not much to find for wayspots

Your area is not rural. It even appears to be a built up area with a good population of wayspots.

Also - not everyone has to be able to visit every pokestop and gym. If you cannot access a wayspot, you cannot access the wayspot and it if your own risk if you decide to go there anyway. The existence of a wayspot is not Niantic saying “this place is safe and accessible for everyone”.

Indeed agree on your point. Rural area or not is very subjective to one person point of view.

But we do cherish every wayspot ( gym and pokestop ) we have on the game board. We work together and carefully nominate each and every wayspot here.

That’s why we hope to make it better place for everyone to enjoy the game.
