Private property Gym (or wayspot, I guess) is like a territorial battle

You know how some Pokémon like Scolipede and Centiskorch go through territorial battles with each other? Imagine I am Scolipede and some random guy on Team Instinct is Centiskorch, and our territory is a lone gym for a little library. Rarely will Scolipede survive getting eaten in this case, because both of us live in neighboring communities, and this little library is in Mr. Instinct’s community, and guess what? I don’t have the keys there nor do I know somebody who lives there, and when I’m at home, my character is usually in a space where she is close to the gym, yet not close enough to battle or spin its photo disk. Rarely does my character walk over to the gym, but then she quickly runs back to where she always is. And when I manage to battle the Pokémon in the gym, which is 85% taken by said guy in Instinct with a best buddy Frigibax, he always feeds said Frigibax and when I manage to knock it out, I have to wait for my character to run back, but since it’s not everyday she does that, Frigibax makes its way back into the gym like it’s nothing. I’ve had strategies. Putting a Blissey in the gym, specifically an XXS Blissey that happened to be my Pokémon with the most HP, and it’s also great with defense, but lo and behold Mr. Instinct with a team of all fighting types sending Blissey back home. Recently I put a perfect Gyarados in there, it was in there for like 3 or 4 days then Mr. Instinct took it out. Very rarely does someone else take control of that gym or join the Frigibax, but the Frigibax just CHILLS (get it?) in there for like 10+ days before getting slaughtered and then brought back from the dead. It’s also almost impossible to report the gym because you have to report it when you’re close to it, and so I’ve only ever made 2 reports for it instead of throwing my best buddy Chandelure into that best buddy Frigibax’s fin, I’m still waiting for a response on the second and the first one I did was rejected. What I am trying to say is: This gym is private property. The name of it is “Ashford Creek Little Library” and it is located in Brookhaven, GA. My area has 2 other Wayspots that should be removed—“Abrazo Monumental” in Blackburn Park, because it doesn’t even exist, and a sponsored Starbucks because it closed a few years back. I’m begging for this landlocked gym to be removed.

Hello and welcome,

Are you able to provide the location for this Wayspot?

Sorry, i couldn’t finish reading that. Nothing about Pokemon GO game play is relevant to Wayfarer. If the LFL is in someone’s front yard, it is in an ineligible location and can be removed through the correct channel. Otherwaise, simply being located in a gated community does not make a wayspot ineligible.

I was talking about gameplay to share my frustration about this wayspot and what issues it’s caused. But it says landlocked wayspots are unacceptable and this one is landlocked because it IS in a gated community, but one that requires keys to enter and you may not live there or know anyone who has the keys there and can take you there or you may not have the keys. And the guy’s always taking the gym, and at one point he was in a Crawdaunt raid that was going on there, and I even joined him for no reason, so now I have a Crawdaunt named after him. If only I’d be as rogue as a Crawdaunt and forcibly take the gym for myself, just to report it and try explaining its landlockedness, but then again I need a star for my Christmas tree.

I also mentioned it’s in Brookhaven, GA but approximately 33.89614° N, 84.33322° W

Unfortunately, Niantic decided to allow wayspots in gated communities, that wayspot does not break any rule.

It’s not clear why it exists as a single gym in a cell without extra poke stop, so maybe it should be demoted to a poke stop.

On the other hand, if you make it disappear, it will not give you any benefit, except, you will destroy the machina portal, if you hate machina for some reason…

Gated communities are not landlocked. They are restricted communities, and are acceptable per Wayfarer criteria:

As for issues with game play, this would best be taken up with PoGo help chat, if you believe there is an issue. Keep in mind that someone may live near this gym, have notifications on when their Pokémon is removed from the gym, and immeditately go back to defeat the new mon in there and retake the gym. It’s not the best etiquette, but it’s allowed.

This is also a neighborhood of townhomes, so not single family private residental property, so the LFL doesn’t meet removal criteria.

Here’s what we’re actually doing with Wayfarer. We’re creating a map of POIs that get added to the Lightship map. Lightship is used by Niantic games for game play locations, and is also open to developers. If this Wayspot was removed for the wrong reasons, this would also affect the other games that use it, such as Ingress.

More info about Wayfarer can be found in the help center:

Oh, ok. I also think it should be demoted to a PokéStop potentially, but I’m wondering if the gym is a factor for seeing more Pokémon appear at my house or its a cell thing since I read about the usage of S2 cells in PoGo. And let’s say there’s like, an Azelf or something at the PokéStop, yet my character’s not close enough to it. I already have a PokéStop of my community’s pool, which I think is in an OK place, but sometimes I just hate walking, and we’re having issues with our cars, one of them’s getting repaired for unexpectedly stopping driving because it’s old and the other has a coolant leak and overheats.

By the way, it’s normal for me to start getting off-topic and ramble about random things like our cars, so sorry about that.

This is not a thing, gyms font get demoted when the qty of pokestops/gyms fall bellow the threshold.

As others have said, this appears to be a valid wayspot and does not meet removal criteria. I don’t know why it’s a gym and not a pokestop but there could be multiple reasons for that.

If you’re interested and able I do see at least two community pools near it that could also be made into wayspots, one to the NW and the other east of it.

I don’t recognize that area, but I feel like community pools would make sense.

Oh, I think I see where those are now. I looked at the ponds for reference, since there’s kind of a dolphin-shaped pond near my community. Though I can’t exactly recall seeing 2 other communities there when we go out to spin stops, just the one that houses the little library Wayspot.

That map is from one of the Ingress tools, IITC if I’m correct. Ingress is another Niantic game with a different game play that PoGo; it’s actually been around longer than PoGo, and many of the first stops/gyms were imported from Ingress.

The red pin with a triangle within a circle is showing that the LFL is also a portal, what Ingress game play locations are called. So, if there is someone in the area that plays Ingress, they would be able to interact with that portal.

Wayfarers may play either PoGo, Ingress, or both, as long as they are at least level 37 in PoGo and/or level 10 in Ingress.

Oh, ok. I only play Pokémon GO, and it’s been my go-to game to play daily since February of this year.

I’m actually kind of trying to work to make my area more accurate in PoGo. The one thing I always say I am gonna do but never end up doing is add a picture for the YMCA. “Look, a Togepi showcase at the…uh…” I’ll see if I can remember to do that tomorrow…if our car lets us.

Do you know if the way spot location is correct? The map shows it along the sidewalk in some trees.

But the way spot photo shows it right up against a building.

I agree with the others that a way spot in a gated community, as long as it is eligible, isn’t a problem, but this one might be mis-located.

Thanks for the help, y’all. I’ve got this from here. I can swing by this area to see what’s going on and what else can be added.

Unfortunately, there’s a nice park not far from here that’s salted from back in 2016.

Again, I don’t live in that community, so I have no idea if it’s in the right place or not.

I know it’s a lil off topic, but I just caught an Azelf here a couple minutes ago, and I thought it was funny. I will probably head over to the pool later to submit stuff.

The problem with wayspot, which is located in a gated community and whose presence cannot be verified by street view, is just that: a problem.
Even if a wayspot is temporarily installed and then completely removed, there is no way to verify this.
But, Unfortunately, the Wayfarer team and Emily do not see this as a problem.

So I can’t find a good answer to this question.
